Georgia Dome imploded with nearly 5,000 pounds of explosives
fox news ^

The dome that opened in 1992 was flattened in 15 seconds at 7:30 am. The Georgia World Congress Center Authority said prior to the blast that it should take 12 seconds for the explosives to go off plus another 3 seconds for sections of grandstands to be on the ground.

The 71,250-seat dome -- which was the site of high school football state championships, Peach Bowls, SEC championship games, two Super Bowls, 1996 Olympic basketball, three Final Four NCAA basketball tournaments, concerts, pro wrestling and other events -- has been replaced by the $1.6 billion Mercedes-Benz Stadium next door.

In December 2014, the Georgia World Congress Center’s board of governors approved a resolution to raise the cost of the stadium to $1.2 billion. The stadium was initially slated to cost $1 billion, then rose to $1.2 billion in October 2013.

The city has agreed to contribute $200 million in stadium bonds, but with additional tax revenuesand with the state of Georgia contributing $40 million for parking expansion, public spending is expected to reach near $600 million.

In January 2015, the Falcons announced the sale of personal seat licenses (PSL) costing up to $45,000 per seat, depending on the section of the stadium. The most expensive tickets is priced at $385 per game, in addition to one-time PSL fees, for the first three years.

On August 21, 2015, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Mercedes-Benz would acquire the naming rights for the stadium, and this was later confirmed by a press conference at the stadium site on August 24. Under the stadium deal with the city of Atlanta and the Georgia World Congress Center Authority, the Falcons organization controls the stadium’s naming rights and receives all related revenue. Then-Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Steve Cannon, who would subsequently join the Falcons’ organization in 2016 as CEO of AMB Group stated that the sponsorship would last 27 years, calling it the largest marketing deal in Mercedes-Benz’ history, but Cannon would not disclose the full value of the deal. Mercedes-Benz also holds a 10-year naming rights contract for the former Louisiana Superdome signed in 2011.

Did you catch that? Total public spending is $600,000,000. Keep worshiping your Falcons and your big ugly expensive stadium.

They voted to pay for part of it

Again I find it ridiculous that all y’all are more concerned about the Falcons than your own home towns and home states

I’m thinking any honest mayor and city council would be honor-bound to kick their sports franchises out of town at the earliest opportunity.

I find you very ridiculous. You are a liar too. You kept maintaining that the taxpayers didn’t pay for it, until I showed you the evidence.

I saw the same garbage in Miami and also where I currently live. So what if they voted for it, it is the NFL preying on gullible idol worshipping morons like you.

I sent you the link that had the story

Falcons paid for 600000000 ATLs 200000000

And again it’s pretty pathetic that all y’all need to comment on some other city and state. Work on your own

Why shouldn’t we comment? If you are a conservative, which you clearly are not, you would support freedom of speech. Every city had to deal with these greedy teams always demanding newer stadiums. To support such nonsense, shows that you aren’t very smart manipulated. End of discussion; okay authur?

You make assumptions that are illogical

Clean your own house then worry about mine. For the record I don’t live in any of the counties that voted on the stadium

I have bee to the old dome for many events. It was a class A dump

The Georgia Dome is your house? assumptions? You support corporate welfare and the greed and larceny that pro sports have subjected their cities too. Maybe you should shut up about the Georgia stadium too since you have skin in the game, but your logic,, or lack there of. I went there many times as well. The seat was able hold me up comfortably. The temperature was very comfortable. I had an unobstructed view of the event. The restroom facilities seemed adequate. I guess you want a stadium with gold toilet seats, and lazy boys for seats.

You still haven’t explained why you believe public tax money needs to be used to build NFL stadium. atlanta just happens to be the latest example. The Vegas Raiders and Rams are next. This is after they left a city who wouldn’t give into their threats. Your the one who likes to give billionaires hundreds of millions of dollars in public tax money. It is pretty straight forward.

Happy thanksgiving to you as well.
