Mother ... reveals that her husband accompanies their daughter, four, into the LADIES' loos

A mother has sparked a fierce debate after revealing her husband takes their daughter into the ladies' toilets when in public places.

Posting on Mumsnet, she explained how she had told him 'women don't like that', arguing that he should take their four-year-old into the men's toilets.

Some members of the parenting forum agreed, saying 'adult men should never be in women's toilets', while others had more sympathy and said they could understand why he wouldn't want to take her to the men's loos.

Several people suggested he should take her to the disabled toilet instead, sparking anger about whether this is appropriate or not.

“by a normal loving father who would prefer to take his daughter into a ladies room...”

A grown man should NOT be in the damn ladies room.

“But he’s a loving father”, is no loophole.

Still lots of good moms where I live in the south

I was in Chicago last two weekends downtown

Loads of gorgeous women and some decent sweet looking moms here and there

When I grew up in Chicago, it was pure midwestern friendly and helpful. Any woman I knew then would have taken it as a responsibility to help a father in need.

My wife is a stroke survivor and her balance has deteriorated such that it is just too easy for her to fall and get hurt. Public bathrooms are a struggle. We pick male or female depending on a number of things, like is one less busy, does the women’s room have kids in it as I won’t go into one if there are, etc. Women don’t seem to get hung up about me being in their bathroom and I make sure they know I am there. In fly over country, if we pick the men’s room, men will queue at the door to respect her privacy, which really touched me that there are still men In this world that would do that. I guess I am saying sometimes genders need to be in the other’s bathroom, as uncomfortable as it is.

I’ve seen changing tables in several men’s rooms - in places like highway rest areas and even some of the Churches.

Although I don’t know how widespread they are.

I’d need a warning to get out of the bathroom before you came in. It wouldn’t be acceptable for you to just announce that you’d arrived. I’m perfectly willing to accept that a bathroom closes off for you and your wife, but not that you go into one without giving other people the opportunity to leave.

When my daughter was that age I would stand by the entrance to the women’s restroom and give instructions to my daughter on how go in there and do her business. Invariably, a mother would offer to take her in there. This was in an era when you could still trust people to not do anything bad.

It must be hard to teach children how to balance a helpful adult and an inappropriate adult in that situation. Not a conversation I can imagine how to have. Standing outside the bathroom was a really good thing. It showed everyone that your daughter had a protector.

I remember that push for co-ed toilets on campuses as well -— about 1972. It was very ‘lefty’ and progressive to state your support for co-ed bathrooms. At the time I thought, ‘these are all college kids, on a safe campus where most of the men are reasonable human beings, and they don’t yet have kids’. But here we are. It’s apparently been a lefty wet dream forever.

Plus, he might get a nice peek.

I love Chicago

People are friendly enough and the women are so pretty and feminine and care how they look

At least in the nice parts

It’s a big dallas with a funny accent and colder

Much colder

Except for Minneapolis it’s the big freezer city title

I lived in Manhattan as a young buck

Now I regret maybe I should have tried Chicago

Or chicargo as my mississippi mom always said
