I can name you at least 25 people who I know who exercised and ran or did other sports who cant any more because of the knee and hip replacements they needed when their joints wore out from all the use. As my bone doc friend used to say, I am treating lawyers with the bones and joints of end of life mill workers

Yeah I don’t why that is, why some people have so much joint problems and other guys can run until they’re in their 80s. There was a guy 96 years old who ran the NYC marathon last year, WW2 vet and he finished it. How crazy is that? I think a lot of it has to do with genetics and past injuries but also how straight your feet are. A lot of people have unaligned feet, when they stand barefoot you can see how the foot sits more to one side than the other and that puts a great deal of stress on the knees and hips. What I found is Dr. Sholes sells orthodics that you can put in your shoes and it compensates which makes a lot of difference. They’re about $60 bucks in any drug store if they got the machine. There’s actually a machine you step on and it determined how aligned your feet are then it tells you which one to buy. That’s how I got mine and it did give my knees a lot less stress. Also leg strength has a lot to do with it. I drove a taxi in NYC for 10 years when I was in my 40s and when I finally quit I can barely walk a block my legs were so weak and then I started exercising then jogging, and man oh man, every night it felt like someone took a sledge hammer to my legs. It was so painful I actually broke out into a fever for some reason and then after about two months of just hammering away running as much as I could, my legs got strong enough where I had zero pain. It was JUST like this guy, EXACTLY but like I said, my limit is only a few miles...

My point being is exercise is so so so vitally important. If you can’t run, then move on to biking or swimming which what my father does now.

Here’s the orthotics......
