Star Wars: The Last Jedi is poised to hit any number of benchmarks and shatter all kinds of records (mostly, the box-office kind) when its released on December 15, but its already surpassed the other entries in the franchise in at least one arealength.
At a recent press conference (via IGN), director Rian Johnson confirmed the runtime. Episode VIII clocks in at a whopping 150 minutes, which is 8 minutes longer than the previous longest-Star-Wars-movie title holder, Attack Of The Clones. The prequels set this extended-length precedentor maybe they just feel that waywhich The Force Awakens and Rogue One were only too happy to follow, since it meant more pew-pewing and rocketing around the galaxy.
The fact that Johnson is helming the longest Star Wars movie either bodes well or poorly for his planned trilogy. Well know more when The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15.
2 hours and 30 minutes?
I’m bored already.
It looked like it would have to be the longest because they have so much story ground to cover. I have no problem with the length. . . as long as it is well done.
I hope that there isn’t a romance between the stormtrooper and Rey Skywalker.
There is zero chemistry between them.
Rey training a new generation of Jedi after her father trains her would be a very interesting storyline though.
More time for long boring scenes about politics.
Jedi Younglings don’t last long around Skywalkers.
I’ve given up on the Star Wars franchise. Won’t bother going to the theater for any more releases. Won’t buy or rent them in any form. And have no desire to see new releases on my streaming video services.
Disney has forgotten how to tell a good story.
The longest Star Wars remake ever . . . .
I haven’t been following the cultural de-evolution of Star Wars.
Have they progressed to the point where the protagonist is a black transwoman lesbian muslim?
In these last three movies the way I see it is a screw you to the white guys.
Luke is replaced by/split into three characters - Poe (the ace flyer) Rey (the mystical) and the black stormtrooper character guy (reluctant rebel).
They killed off Han, old white guys are irrelevant now, thanks, but we’re done with you.
Rey is NOT going to be a Jedi. The title of the movie is THE LAST JEDI. LUKE IS A JEDI. He is THE JEDI. The title is about him. Rey will be something else, just not a Jedi.
Saw the original in the 70’s. Then Empire and Jedi in 80s. Have seen none since then. Sadly most subsequent episodes look boring. The story has been lost to CGI effects.
I blame the Ewoks.
Everything since then has been a total disaster, including the last installment.
There’s no way Hollywood can make a competent Star Wars nowadays. The universalism of outer space is guaranteed to blow their SJW tendencies into a leftist supernova. They cannot escape the gravitational attraction.
Thus they will make the leap into hyperliberalspace, and it will suck.
I have to pee already. but I won’t.
LOL
Yes....Luke has come to the realization that a strict LEFT/RIGHT attitude is not how to approach the Force.
Much better to be a middling cuck.
More leftist political garbage injected in “popular culture” (capitals intentionally omitted).
Maybe Rey will become the Last Jedi and Luke will become something else.
Some fandom say Rey is the true balance of the force and the reincarnation of Anikan.
Agree about the Ewok cancer. That film would have been 100% better with some non-”cute” race of critters. I saw the Phantom Menace in the theater and knew I was done with the Star Wars franchise forever before the credits rolled.
Exactly. Almost designed to have the kids running back and forth to the snack bar. And the oldsters running back and forth from the john
