Brainteaser shows a funnel of coffee being poured into different pipes
Poster asked her followers to guess which cup received coffee first
People were left stumped by the confusing brainteaser on social media

I agree its 5 the others don’t have an unblocked path to the cup.
#9 as it will be the first cup to receive coffee based upon the tube opennings, location of the spickets, and an equal or larger tube size if the coffee enters all tubes evenly and freely. But the first cup to be filled is mine as I am not going to waste the money and time trying to prove anything that has no need. I leave that to people that follow twitter or Facebook. So the best way is not to play. How about a nice game of chess?

Not Enough Coffee!
And Jimmy Crack Corn...
#5, and only # 5
9
9. Look at the levels of the pipes. On the left, the coffee would start draining off to the left before reaching the level of the pipe on the right. Then, becausse the pipe going to cup 4 is blocked, the coffee will drain into the 9 cup. Unless you pour very fast it’s unlikely that any coffee will get to cup 5.
Can’t. Pipes to 4 and 7 are blocked.
Five is the only one not blocked.
4 9 and 7 have blockages. Only 5 does not.
Thank goodness for those laser instruments...
Forget about the problem, I'm impressed that they show a Chemex pot to demonstrate!
We are on our third Chemex pot in 45 years. Two broke in very unusual ways, so they are very durable.
My work-around for the filters is to double-up the 12 cup Brew Rite filters, fold and pre-wet accordingly. Seems to emulate the Chemex filtration flow rate.
I thought it was #4. I didn’t even notice the blockage. Wow. Good for you and the other observant Freepers. Maybe my excuse is that I am using a cellphone with a smaller image. ;-)
Even worse, people are still getting it wrong after 175 posts. And of course they also know the real reasons for the Vegas shootings, the Twin Towers, the Kennedy assassination, and other mysteries.
If you were to switch cups #7 and #5, then #7 would fill first.
Assuming we’re still subject to gravity it’s #4.
9 is blocked at the end. The only one open all the way through is 5.
#9 is blocked. #5 is the winner but does the pot have enough coffee?
#5 is the only one that can fill. The others all have closed off line that will keep them from getting coffee.

That is absolutely amazing. I’m enjoying this so much.
