The 51st Annual CMA Awards saw the best in county music come together, but it was Garth Brooks that took home the top prize, being crowned entertainer of the year.

"The most important thing other than God Himself is you, the poeple who allow us to be in the greatest music ever. Country music man," the star said while accepting his award. "I love you."

The show started off on a somber note and quickly segued into political quips with hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley mocking the president.

The evening began with the first verse of “Amazing Grace” performed by Eric Church before Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Darius Rucker and more teamed up to perform “Hold My Hand.”

Underwood and Paisley hosted the show for the 10th consecutive year, and Underwood opened the show by listing off recent tragedies, like the shooting in Las Vegas that claimed the lives of 58 country music fans at the Route 91 Harvest Festival last month.

Most modern country songs come from New York City.

"New York City?"

"Get a rope ..."

Wow, Carrie and Brad appear clueless about who their fan base is. If this continues, they will experience a Dixie Chicks fate.

CMA takes a knee.

It's beginning to make sense...

This won’t go over well for their Christmas song sales. Chalk their stupidity right up there with the NFL and Target for turning away customers. Keep it up and they’ll Dixie Chicks themselves.

I didn’t hear any country music until Alan Jackson showed up. And the woman singing Wichita Lineman, that was the awfullest rendition. Carrie Underwood’s tribute Come Home where the focus was entirely on her and not on the passing of music artists in the last year and the victims of the LV massacre was horrendous. I watched the whole thing with my dad and we could hardly believe that all of that caterwauling passes for country music.

I saw the replay of this today on Fox & Friends. I thought this was just poking fun at BOTH Hillary and Donald. It was not in the same vein as Hollywood or late night hosts.
It was just light humor. I would not think badly of either country performer because of this.

Making a joke about Trump starting a nuclear war with a tweet is Leftist play book material. If nuclear war is something to joke about...

I can’t say I will boycott country music as a result because I started that a long time ago.

I watched 5 minutes of it and couldn’t believe it was CMA. Looked like some Hollywood crap fest.

Love all of them!

I remember seeing Don Williams at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo when I was in my teens. Wonderful!

It was always fun watching Buck Owens and Roy Clark together, too. Roy Clark was so talented - and funny, too!

I agree!

Especially considering the NFL goofballs, I think a lot of people are getting pretty fed up with the unnecessary political stuff.

In the early to mid 1950s,in Phoenix,AZ.,my Dad was drinking buddies with Marty Robbins. My Pop also was friends with Ira Hays and would often talk about their drinking, poker games together.

thanks for the balancing opinion.

As for myself, I haven’t listened to “NEW COUNTRY” in at least 25 years.

Agreed, I hope we aren’t getting to the point that we can’t take a joke. President Trump is funny.

Huh? Did you miss the video that accompanied the song she performed? She couldn’t even finish the song, she was in tears. Showed and named every victim of the Vegas shooting. Geesh
