1959 Cadillac: The king of fins (car porn)
YouTube ^ | 2011 | Cardiff333UK

The high water mark of 1950's car design. Scads of chrome, rocket-ship tailfins and 5,000 lbs of good old fashioned American made steel on an X frame. (We won't dwell on the 8MPG fuel economy). A true automotive goddess from another age.

The’59 El Camino ....rare because few were made. I rarely saw one when they were current. Back in that day. When we ran trade surpluses without a stutter.

Smuggled ( smuggled!) a ‘59 Caddy Biarritz convertible into Norway in the early ‘80’s. Yes that Norway. The country. The new owner covered my expenses and 5k US for my services.
It’s a great story over a couple of beers.
It’s all true you can look it up.
It even involved a murder suicide.
Some people just loved that car to much.

What an amazing wing span on the B52. Fly like an eagle. I always thought the designers of the ‘59 Cadillac were inspired by the B52. Back when America (guys really) projected serious mojo via our artistry, engineering and design and industrial arts.

For our first date in 1971, I picked up my girl in my dad's car, a 1958 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special 4 door sedan with chrome all over. Looked just like this: Married me anyway in 1976. Had fun with the gas station attendants who couldn't figure out where the gas cap was. It was under the left rear tail lights.

In that thing you were on a first name basis with the nozzle jockey.

Yup, those old Cadillacs are pretty damn cool. Dad also had a 73 front wheel drive El Dorado and got my older brother a 63 Coupe De Ville. I got the Cordoba with T tops from 78, sweet car....

Loved your story about the Chevy Impaler. I so remember those cars.

Actually, we knew the family that owned the gas station we used.

Boy, did that come in handy during the 1974 gas crisis!

When I was 18 I had a ‘57 Chevy. I leaped backwards onto the hood one day and managed to get a second hole in my buttocks on the hood’s darts.

My mother-in-law had a used ‘78 Cordoba—sweet car. She got because she had a crush on Ricardo Montalban (”fine Corinthian leather..”

Long hood, short rear deck—great look.

LOL!

Good thing it wasn’t an old Pontiac, with the Indian Chief hood ornament.

Long hood, short rear deck

I call that the "Cruella De Vil" look.

My wife took her Texas Panhandle driver test in her grandmother’s ‘60s Cadillac. The tester asked her to turn on the headlights. She replied, “They turn themselves on.” The driver told her to parallel park. Like any small-town Texan, she just pulled straight into the parking spot.

He passed her anyway. She was very cute.

Seems there ought to be a huge 3D printing opportunity for remaking classic cars.
