They try to protect themselves from criminal liability by both deflecting the story and rallying other gays (and their avid supporters) around them.
I wondered why they felt it necessary to throw in the gay angle on his "House of Cards" character.
Perhaps, if the Clintons were the model for that show's first family, at least one of them had to have expanded, deviate sexual tastes, and it was more natural for him than for Robin to play the role. Or, perhaps they didn't want to mimic the Clintons too closely.

I read the circumstances of the incident. Where in the Hell was this kid’s parents????? He is invited to party at Spacey’s apartment and this incident takes place but nowhere in this story is any mention of this kid’s parents and if he told them about the incident or anything else.
A non-denial denial with a heartfelt admission you’re gay. That’s what you need to write. And don’t mention the words: ‘boy’ or ‘pedophile’.
