The scariest thing this Halloween for New York moms isnt zombies or ghouls its politically incorrect costumes.
An article on raceconscious.org by Sachi Feris has been making the rounds on mommy Facebook groups. Feris writes that her 5-year-old daughter declared she wanted to be Polynesian Disney character Moana, which she worried would be cultural appropriation.
Her daughters other choice: Scandinavian Queen Elsa from the Disney movie Frozen.
I had some reservations regarding both costume choices about cultural appropriation and the power/privilege carried by Whiteness, and about Whiteness and standards of beauty, she wrote.
Feris went on to describe a series of conversations with her daughter, particularly focusing on the ethics of dressing as Moana, who as a teen sets out on a treacherous sea journey to save her familys island from famine and destruction and succeeds.
In the end, Feriss daughter decided to dress as Elsa though Feris was concerned it might teach her short-haired brunette daughter that one must be white, blue-eyed and have long flaxen hair to be a beautiful princess.
But she nixed the Moana costume for Mickey Mouse, because, as Ferris wrote, we dont have to worry about making fun of anyone or dressing up as a culture different from our own because Mickey Mouse is a pretend mouse!
One thing is for sure, our discussions around appropriate and inappropriate Halloween costumes will continue, concluded Feris.

Or the scariest of all...as a democrat!
Now, now....there's such a thing as going too far.
But she’s OK with a Mickey Mouse costume. The first thing that enters my mind when I hear “Mickey Mouse” is “gay days” at Disney parks. We haven’t entered a Disney movie or park since the mid-’90s.
And to think I was Willie Mays for Halloween when I was ten. My mom used a burnt cork to darken my skin. He was my first sports hero, I had it all, except talent of course: uniform, bat, glove, etc.
The concept of cultural appropriation is laughable.
Ultimately I need nothing from other cultures, and yet they need almost everything from mine.
It’s merely a tool for the leftists, and a crutch for failed individuals who can”t make the cut.
Same people thay have no problem with ‘gender appropriation’..
Such terms only work because WE allow them to work.
Exactly! Just tell them to get back to reality or go to hell then do what you damn well please!
I was in Disneyland Paris just last month. Very nice park, though I wouldn't make a trip for the sole purpose of visiting it.
Booooyah!
I’d think this character would be a GREAT one for little girls to emulate. Powerful, pretty and she gets the job done!
But, what do I know? FemiNazis are SO much smarter than all of the rest of us, combined.
*Rolleyes*
“If Frederica (All Hat, No Cattle) Wilson can wear a cowboy hat, little girls can be whatever they want for Halloween.”
Post Of The Day! :)
"Pretty"? That's lookism!
(wagging finger)
Your post is a tour de force of white people problems!
Hilarious, but the subtext is just sad, sad, sad.
These are cartoons. Not culture. Friggin’ morons.
Reminds me of the crack Bob Hope made in a movie. They were on an Island of Zombies and when Hope heard the description about the characteristics of Zombies, he replied..”What you mean like Democrats?”. I nearly split my gut watching that!
Oh, this place is a hoot!
I’m sure this mom is teaching her daughter the importance of “virtue signaling” without dealing with the uncomfortable area of actual Virtue.
Maybe include an ‘I’m With Her’ sticker.
I am beginning to call liberals Secular Puritans. They are the .... in the Punchbowl.
It’s culturally inappropriate to comment on cultural impropriety.
