Doctor??

The last time I saw a doctor was about ‘95.

I suppose I should do a check up soon, but like my neighbor says if you take care of yourself and eat right then that’s all ya got!

I got my blood type from a Red Cross visit. It was horrible. And they call me 3 times a damned day now looking for more.

3 times a day? I find that a bit unbelievable or perhaps an exaggeration? Not to say they won’t call or send post cards, (I get reminders via email) and bug you to come back in and donate, but they actually call you 3 times a day? I’d complain about that.

And I’m curious as to what was so “horrible” about it? I’ve given regularly over the years since a teenager and I’ve never had anything close to a “horrible” experience. The only time that came close was when for some reason the arm they were drawing blood from stopped flowing and the bag wasn’t only about 3/4 filled. So they explained that either I could let them tap the other arm to fill the bag or the unfilled bag would have to be disposed of as it couldn't be used. So I rolled up my other sleeve and said, “we've come this far so drill baby drill”. ; )

OK. That makes sense if you are just curious. I don’t know anything about mail order blood type kits or how reliable they are.

In college, I went along with a grad student to give blood. We were comparing cards, and it turned that that his blood was pretty rare because of one or two additional antigens.

He was one of a handful in the state, and after testing/processing, his blood would be put in a flat pack, and immersed in LN2 before heading off for the deep freeze until it's really needed for a type-specific recipient.

My personnel records have been hacked at least 6 times so I refuse to answer that.

I’m with you. We are the unfortunate ones who can only receive blood from our type, O-. But we can give it to everyone. That is why we are in such demand.

“”o negative.. I can GIVE to anyone, Get from almost no one.
Blood banks love me.””

Same here. When I had cataract surgery this week, one of the questions asked at pre-op was: would you consent to a blood transfusion if it was necessary? Thinking it might just be a bit more complicated than a simple answer, I said that I carry a card in my wallet which lays out my blood type AND the antibodies which make me a rare blood donor. I’ve carried the card since 1973 and thankfully, haven’t needed to use it..

The robot checking me in said, “You don’t have to worry about that. That would be for a hospital to decide. We don’t have any blood products here.” To which I answered - as I was already fed up with the automated spiel, “You don’t have blood products here yet you want me to answer that question here?”

That sentence from her was the longest she spouted during the entire pre-op procedure. The rest was grunts!
