Achtung Komarade!

“The game itself became a huge hit almost single handedly creating the video game industry and making the CD-ROM acceptable.”

Bwahahahahaa... yes the BILLIONS of dollars made in video games before 1993 didn’t happen.... and of course the CDROM didn’t exist prior to 1993 either.... What a whole on example of sheer stupidity

Yup. Beautiful game. The graphics were stunning even by today's standards. Totally engrossing.

Seems like a modernized version would be popular. Especially nice with the newer and faster hardware.

Here is the music.

Loved Myst and Riven, then Half Life with it’s puzzles and shooting.
I wish I had that time back though, video games can suck away your most precious years.

Just playing around I copied a Myst *.MOV file to another disk location and renamed the extension from ‘mov’ to ‘mp4’. Windows Media Player plays the music just fine ... no video however.

It appears that the ‘mov’ format is a early version of mp4 or at least uses much of the same formatting. MP4 recognizes the audio portion of the file but not the video.

Oh boy, did I play MYST..... had my 2 daughters involved, kept a notebook.... I guess around ‘95 for us. It was amazing. The music was great - where do you have it available to play?

Cyan did come up with an updated version and you can get in the App Store.

I couldn’t play again, not enough time or energy. I wonder if it would be dated, quaint and boring. Kinda like getting excited over playing Leather Goddesses of Phobos now - fun memories, but it ain’t gonna happen.

You are in a maze of twisty passages, all alike.

Wait, wrong game.

Myst was a fun game, for a more civilized era. Ended up having to look up the answers on that new thing they called the internet, or some such.

I may still have that computer lying around somewhere. Or maybe it was pre-Pentium days.

I forget...

I did, in the 90’s...

I now “own” a higher-quality copy on my Steam account, but it’s mostly for the entertainment of my younger relatives.

I have the 10th anniversary edition which came with Myst, Riven and Exile. I loved it even though I didn’t figure out all the puzzles, I did figure out a lot of them. It’s been many years since I’ve played it. There are some fixes needed, but I’m not sure if they are still available online.

I’ve played it, still have the CD.

But my favorite game of all time is - ....

Populous, the beginning.

First computer game I ever played was “Hunt the Wumpus” on a Digital Equipment Corporation PDP 11/70. First home computer game was “The Bard’s Tale” on the Commodore 64. Myst was really good but it did not usher in the era of video games, as you suggest.

I LOVED Myst and Riven, to the point I would ignore my kids! Didn’t buy anymore computer games after that.

I loved Myst. i still have my first Myst game CD from 1998 (the year we bought our first computer), as well as a later version for. XP.
I’ve also still got my copy of Riven, but haven’t played either game in a coon’s age.

Wonderful games.
