This is so ridiculous, and I am so sick of hearing how ‘unless you're a minority, you just can't understand’. I personally am of the belief that Henry David Thoreau's comment that The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation is accurate. We all have baggage and have suffered at one time or another, and none of us can accurately predict what is around the corner. To assume that only you have suffered, and that the rest of us just wouldn't understand, is self indulgent, and is dismissive of what the rest of the world has had laid at their feet.
Colin Kaepaernick has been very fortunate in many ways, but chooses to play a victim. That's his choice, but I don't have to assume the ‘guilt’ he seems to want to label me with - just because I'm not recognized as a minority. If he, and many others were truly aware of the reality of the lives of those they call ‘privileged’, I highly doubt they would consider trading places for even a nanosecond.
To assume that only you have suffered, and that the rest of us just wouldn't understand, is self indulgent, and is dismissive of what the rest of the world has had laid at their feet. It's basically a way to pretend that a lack of self-restraint, discipline and education is not the reason one is mired in a bad situation. Blame whitey, and especially ones who point that out.
