Any 50's/60's music lovers here?
10-10-2017 | Me

Just trying to forgot about all the sad events in the world today with the mass killings, fires, hurricanes, etc. so I've turned to music for an outlet. I know this is weird as I'm 55y/o but I love 50's and 60's music. They just don't make music like this anymore. Here are two of my favorites.

Four Preps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXd8c1BLpRQ

Bachelors https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4opYhQAAao

What are your favs from these eras?

The Coasters were big in my house too. "Charlie Brown" was played a lot. My oldest sister loved Bill Haley and the Comets, Della Reese, and the Platters. My second oldest sister was a big Santo and Johnny, and Pat Boone fan. She and I had to get white bucks because they were the rage. Also a big hit in our house was "Get a Job" by the Silhouettes (1957).

The Hollywood Argyles released "Alley Oop" in 1960:

Alley Oop

Also this one from 1958:

One Eyed one Horned Flying Purple People Eater

Thanks for Topsy Part 2. I remember it well, but had forgotten all about it until you posted the link.

I enjoyed the Everly Brothers because my two older sisters were into music, so I got a good education of the music of the 50’s. I was 10 in 1957. My second oldest sister bought one of the first stereo record consoles for our house.

We listened to a lot of The Ames Brothers, and Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians. When Mitch Miller started his “Sing Along With Mitch” tv series in 1961, we watched it every week. My Dad loved the old songs they sang, and we bought the albums which had all the lyrics included so we could sing along at home.

Try The Temptations “ singing “You’ll Lose a precious love” with Davy Ruffin up front. Motown ping!

Too many favorites to list - I have over 250 GB of mp3s and 75% are from that time frame. The rest span 70s - 80s/Blues and Jazz - with some classical because some of the strings and piano productions can be relaxing.

How about Dick Dale and the Deltones doing “Pipeline “? One of the most famous guitar riffs ever!

Everything from that era is so much classier than anything today.

Check out Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

and

Devil Doll

They are 50's-type swing groups in the modern era.

Jay & Americans Fun Fact....

During a 1 year period, a young Donald Fagen & Walter Becker were a part of his touring band.

Of course, Fagen & Becker went on to join a small band called Steely Dan.

Yes, forgot Dick Dale. Terrific. I’ve always had a penchant for instrumental music. At one time it was a staple of the Top 40 format. Alas, no longer.
