President Donald Trump did not mention Native Americans during his proclamation of Columbus Day, in a break from his predecessor.
"The permanent arrival of Europeans to the Americas was a transformative event that undeniably and fundamentally changed the course of human history and set the stage for the development of our great Nation," Trump wrote in his proclamation, according to The Hill.
"Therefore, on Columbus Day, we honor the skilled navigator and man of faith, whose courageous feat brought together continents and has inspired countless others to pursue their dreams and convictions — even in the face of extreme doubt and tremendous adversity."

Columbus Day, though not recognized in every state, and has attracted some criticism over its celebration of the explorer's "discovery" of America. In recent times, there's been a push to renamed the holiday Indigenous Peoples' Day, to highlight those who already lived on this land before Columbus' arrival...

Humans migrate for many reasons. The “indigenous” people in America migrated. When two groups of people run into each other, many times the inferior culture disappears or is absorbed into the superior one.
The Europeans were superior in technology, science, weaponry, social organization, organized religion, laws, governments, building, medicine, transportation and so on. The people who were here were overrun, as the europeans population increased and needed more space and resources. Wars were fought and land settled and the people with seniority lost out. Those are the facts of life.
This anti-columbus movement is anchored by leftists and Mexicans in the US who forget they have Spanish blood in them.
Columbus was brave and a great explorer. As a person of European descent, I am thankful he came here. I know his voyages lead to the greatest nation in the history of the word. That’s why I celebrate Columbus day. If you want a day get your own.

My dad was in 6 years before and during wii and in Europe, France and germany. Shot. Never got Vet Day off, while I, a former hippie state employee, got it off every year. No justice, no holiday.
Why call your ethnic group a name that hundreds of millions of people who aren’t in your group can also call themselves?
I never got that. I’m not a member of any of those tribes, but I’m a native American. I was born in America.
