ROKU and XTV The demise of the channel

SORRY - XTV is no longer in operation.

The original XTV, known and loved by hordes of Roku users looking for free access to cable channels and popular network shows, was removed from Roku as a result of a third party claim of copyright violation. Mere days after removal, the channel was reborn as XTV-2. "All content," read a notice on the channel, "is now used with permission or is in the public domain."

But, alas, XTV's rebirth was short-lived. Apparently, not all content was used with permission or in the public domain. As of October 5, 2017, XTV fans launching the non-certified channel on their Roku devices were greeted with an FBI Anti-Piracy Warning and a notice that "Roku has removed this unauthorized service due to repeated claims of copyright infringement." See screenshots below.

R.I.P., XTV.

Direct TV Now is my favorite of the “over the top” (internet streaming) providers. Many good channels, even on the lowest tier.

Ladies in the house love Hallmark Channel—Esp. at Christmas time with their traditional CHRISTMAS movies.

Anyone know if can get Hallmark Channel thru a provider other than traditional cable?

Though ROKU does have the channel available, in order to see it requires a cable provider. So much for that! :-(
However, at this time there are movies to be seen on you tube if you ‘google’ You Tube Hallmark Movies. When/if they will be removed or if these will continue to be seen w/o YOU TUBE RED subscriptions...who could say.

Christmas and Hallmark go together hand in hand. Their Christmas movies are fondly remembered.

Long time Roku streamer, here. I pay for Netflix and Amazon, and enjoy YouTube and others for free.

XTV was almost too good, to be true.

Oh well, this is part of the process. In my view, XTV was effectively “stealing” the property of others without their consent. streaming technology and streaming worlds, will continue to change.

My daughter is upset over the loss of XTV, but I warned her from the start, to not depend on it.

PERSONS we should feel for would be the owner of the app. Then, those who donated to him to enable his app to root and grow. Their dollars, well intended, bought nothing. The app owner was, basically, paid by those dollars for the many hours he spent in building and improving his accomplishment.
Taken and torn down more than once.
TV is changing even more rapidly than we can comprehend.

Like your daughter, this upset me as well. Like saying goodbye to an old best friend but there are many new ones still around who would be considered friends as well. Life goes on.
