Apple's new iPhone X $999 price tag only looks expensive, according to Apple chief Tim Cook.
Asked by ABC's Good Morning America presenter Robin Roberts whether the iPhone X's price tag was "out of reach for the average American", Cook replied that it was "a value price actually for the technology you're getting".
After explaining that most people pay don't pay the full sum upfront and often receive carrier subsidies and trade-in discounts, Cook also suggests that whether the iPhone X is out of reach for most people is beside the point.
That's because Apple's goal has never been to sell the most phones. The technology it packs into its phone, which explains the price, merely reflects what phone addicts want.
"The iPhone in particular has become so essential in our daily lives, people want it to do more and more, and so we built more and more technology in to be able to do that," said Cook.
"Apple has never been about selling the most of anything. Our objectives aren't big revenues. Our objective is to make products that enrich people's lives. We want to help people."

The left sees slavery around every corner yet do not see the irony as they continue their addiction to Apple products made by slave labor working 18 grueling hours a day sitting in factories with suicide nets around it.

Seriously, if a $50 phone did all of that “good enough” there wouldn’t be a market for $999 iPhones. ...but it doesn’t, so there is.
Remember, we’re talking something that you’re going to use a LOT and costs $1/day. Yeah, you can pay $0.05/day for “does all of that” ... but then you’d have to use it, and do you think the $0.95/day difference in quality, apps, UI/UX, etc isn’t worth it? millions of users _do_ think the difference is worth it. POS screen, touch response, also-ran apps, Big Brother’s OS, version fragmentation, etc really adds up to a sub-par user experience ... while a premium OLED display, fast response, great camera, quality apps, etc is worth a cup of coffee daily. I’m glad - thrilled - that smartphones have reached the point where the poor can afford what they get with a $50 bottom-end smartphone, and I’m thrilled that a bleeding-edge iPhone X, with everything it offers, is just $999 and will be a joy to use for at least 3 years.
I come from the day of paying the equivalent of today’s $6000 for a 4-cubic-foot box featuring a 0.004GHz processor, 0.000064GB RAM, 0.000160GB storage, 320x200x16 display, and no networking. I’d have sold my soul to get an iPhone X back then.

They wanted that job because it paid 3x anything else they could do.
Suicides there are substantially _less_ than the general population.
The nets are there because there’s enough people working in those buildings that it does happen, and something can be done about it (unlike the much higher rates in surrounding areas, spread out enough that suicides aren’t associated with anywhere in particular).

I have a tablet. At work I am allowed to bring in a phone but not a tablet. When I go jogging I don’t lug along a tablet. When I got hiking I don’t lug along the tablet (for topo maps). I don’t carry a tablet into the store so my wife can text message me anything she forgot to tell me to get.
Ah, so your “$50 phone” includes three full-blown computers at unspecified prices.

I love my iPhone 6+, and I know where to get world class Riesling for $8-10 per bottle. Suits me just fine.
Why make sweeping generalizations? Perhaps other functions are unnecessary for you, but I make a real good living with my smart phone and I’m hardly alone. If not for my iPhone I’d be tethered to a computer on a desk 60 hours a week and I’d be miserable. Instead I spend maybe 5-10 hours a week in my office. I only do that so my employees know I’m paying attention. I’ve got a growing business and lots of personal freedom because of an $800 phone, unlimited data, and some apps.
