Probably my favorite lyric line from all his songs came from this one ......

"I can still hear the soft Southern winds in the live oak trees"

yeah it is....there is a reason the album Back in Black is now the second highest selling album in history. Only Thriller has sold more.

I googled the top 100 songs of 1980 and found
to my surprise, I didn’t like any of them.

1980 was really the first year I started listening to more Jazz artists.

The two albums I probably played the most was:
“American Garage” by The Pat Metheny Group and Jean Luc-Ponty’s “A Taste for Passion”

There was good music galore in 1980, but much of it wasn’t getting anything in the way of airplay. The popular music was mostly insipid. Arena rock in it’s death throes, Disco in it’s death throes, punk morphing to new wave, soul morphing to funk. Very transitional year.

Another album I played a lot was Billy Joel’s “Glass Houses”....”It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me”, “You May Be Right”....but my favorite on that album was “All For Leyna”.

Thanks, FRiend. I love threads like this. I’ll be listening to good old music for days. Some of these songs I’ve long forgotten. Some I’m not sure I ever heard. Good music is food for the soul. And studies have shown it helps fungus grow. (Would I lie?) So be a sport, what’s your favorite 1980 tune?
