As automation and artificial intelligence technologies improve, many people worry about the future of work. If millions of human workers no longer have jobs, the worriers ask, what will people do, how will they provide for themselves and their families, and what changes might occur (or be needed) in order for society to adjust? Many economists say there is no need to worry.

Elephant brought up a point.
If AI will replace us all, why do we keep importing low skilled labor? Why do companies DEMAND that the wall not be built, DACA be made law, and a host of other things?
Zuckerbots?
HARLOW: I was reading a book the other day... the guy said machinery is going to take the place of every profession.
DRESSLER: Oh, my dear, that's something you'll never have to worry about.
The new sexbots will have the last laugh.
:)
This is total BS
Automation is not going to kill all jobs, if for no other reason than it would take 20 years working at full employment to build and integrate all those robots.
The rise of automation will generate new jobs that do not even exist now and create new fields of employment unless we institute a guaranteed income which will trap people in welfare
A guaranteed annual income will manufacture an idle welfare class and give rise to all the dysfunctionality the the current welfare system does

I am not advocating this model.
Am saying how some would see it.
Most of our “leaders” could care less about the unwashed masses.
With robots in place its just a matter of time before our dear global leaders begin to control populations.
At first, maybe a couple would get paid not to have children.
Even churches will preach not having children is good.
Or, if they have children the government would decide if they are fit to live.
Old people ..forget it ..unless you are useful will no longer get needed care to sustain life.
The transition may take a decade.
At first, it will seem like paradise..
Getting paid not to work.
Or, maybe getting paid to “take a survey” or “watch a tv show” and then comment on it.
In the end the leaders are only interested in people who can maintain the robots, engineers, doctors (although eventually robots will replace doctors, too),breaders, enforcers and a select few of general laborers.
Meanwhile, the population worldwide is being whittled down to tens of millions.
It’s the transition period that is the key.
At first there will be work O’plenty.building robots..testing robots.
Only those that excell will be guaranteed a postion.
The rest, over time, will be phased out.
But early on, like I said, will think it’s paradise..getting paid to complete questionaires or watch tv shows and comment about the show.
Meanwhile, the leaders are compiling information on who is fit live in their automated UTOPIA.
I don’t watch videos to get my news. That went out with Tom Brokaw. I read.
Produce me an AI that can design a computer.
You can't.
Produce me an AI that can design a transmission for a car.
You can't.
Produce me an AI that can write a beautiful symphony.
You can't.
AI is fool's gold. At best, all it will ever be is a giant database that can "Google" facts faster than any human, but doesn't "understand" anything. It will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER replace human thought. EVER.
Those are just math problems. They are already doing tht sort of stuff to some degree.
And I’m not talking about “today”. I’m talking about the near future. i.e. 20-40 years. Remember, a couple of decades ago a self driving car was crazy talk.
I don’t watch videos to get my news, but I do watch them to be entertained and often get perspective. It’s why I like Bill Wittle, Klavan and Prager U.
