Mankind is at a 'tipping point' as automation and AI begins to replace us in a 'long [tr]

As automation and artificial intelligence technologies improve, many people worry about the future of work. If millions of human workers no longer have jobs, the worriers ask, what will people do, how will they provide for themselves and their families, and what changes might occur (or be needed) in order for society to adjust? Many economists say there is no need to worry.

I am honestly terrified of every possibility that my inferior mind can come up with.

I’m sort of with you, but as a Christian I am not terrified. Rather, I see this as proof that either the Lord’s return is imminent, or the complete and violent collapse of western civilization is imminent. In either case, life is a mist. I see it all as The Matrix in a way.

All previous models would no longer apply.
Initially larger numbers of workers would be required.
Howerever, the robots would begin to do more and more of The work.
Including menial labor.
At a certain point The vast majority of people are no longer needed.
The only “consumers” would be the wealthy.
The only “workers” would be a select highly trained and skilled engineers, computer scientist, and maintainance people.

Which brings me back to “what value would the overwhelming unskilled population have?”

In fact, they would be a burden.
Feeding and housing 8 billion people, who essentially are obsolete, and have very little to offer in a age of robots.

Perhaps some of them could be sex slaves or breaders?

This is just BS. They are going to use this to institute communism worldwide.

EVERY SINGLE OCCUPATION IMAGINABLE will be replaced.

Bull. Crap.

What robot is going to replace engineers? Designers?

NONSENSE.

It's just another excuse for more socialism and totalitarianism.

IA.

It will also replace doctors, scientists, composers, etc.

I don’t think a lot of people really grasp what computers can do today compared to the past, nor what the future holds.

The problem is that creativity must be nurtured. Computers ARE creative now.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! What nonsense! You are naive if you believe a computer can do what a human designer can do! You know absolutely nothing about it, yet you stand and enthusiastically invite more socialism.

You are living in a complete fantasy world. If you won't deal with reality, and I have nothing further to say to you.

Humans will never be replaced in the work force until they can come up with Artificial Stupidity. The Dems are working on it.

What computers produce may be stark, and not beautiful, but they can create once they have the parameters.

At some point, they will be able to create their own parameters.

Compared to computers, robots and IA, human beings are “jack of all trades” and flawed. Computers and IA do not have such broad capacities, nor the flaws that come with them. A pitching machine can be built that will out-pitch any human pitcher. It is relatively easy. There will be no wild pitches. The ball will go exactly where it is propelled to go, with the exact amount of spin necessary to create the exactly correct curve necessary to hit the strike zone in exactly the right place.

And AI can be fed the stats for a particular hitter and use sophisticated logic to determine where the next pitch should go, should it be a curve or a fastball, etc.

Same is true for Surgery, Music, art, structural integrity, etc. Sure, at first the machines will be designed for their specific function and speciality, but iventually they will be come multi-purpose just like humans. And just as an airplane flies using different methods than a bird, enabling them to do far more than a bird can do, the same will be true of computers and other “human brain replacements”.

It is quite inevitable - and coming a lot sooner than most people think.

I still have a beta recording of a PBS broadcast from the 90’s demonstrating a self driving car. It moved a foot or two, stopped for a couple of hours as it interpretted the area around it, adjusted its steering angle, and went another foot or two, before repeating the process.

They are better now.

Again, this is inevitable, and happening faster than most people are willing to accept.

Using ad-hominem and saying you disagree is not an argument. I came here for an argument.

Did you watch the video I posted? It is getting old, but makes the points. I especially like the part about the horses.

For proof, I just offer this:

Lots of opinions on both sides but, as I like to say, the truth percolates to the top.

I dont want socialism or totalitarianism, butbwhat happens as computers and robots keep increasing in capabilities and those whose capabilities have been surpassed and cannot meaningfully participate in the workplace because they are no longer cost effective?

Since countries such as Germany are supposedly importing illegals because their population is not growing, what is the problem with there being less jobs?

If there is lower birthrate in the Western societies and also less jobs it seems like everything should be fine.

If the abundantly breeding Hispanics and muslims stay in their own countries which are less technologically advanced their jobs will not be replaced by AI.
