TOP 25 TAKEAWAYS: The real loss for FSU; Same ol' Texas mess

The anticipation for week one of the college football season can only be surpassed by the overreactions to week one of the college football season. LOL, Tom Herman hype. Sam Darnold and No. 4 Southern California? Overrated. Florida? No quarterback. North Carolina State? Already a disappointment. Most teams have played one game so far. Relax. The only thing we know for sure: Alabama is really good again, and losing to game to the top-ranked might have been the second-worst thing that happened to No. 3 Florida State.

WMU was in the game until mid fourth quarter, at USC.

However, the Trojans won--by three touchdouns.

Next week, we'll find out if USC is for real when the Stanford Indians come to town.

Fight on! Massacre the Indians!

...WMU had lost its excellent young coach at the end of last season. They're the third best team in the state of Michigan, and a far away third.

The Eastern Michigan Hurons are probably not among the other two. They didn't do too well yesterday.

That will tell the tale.

LOL, about the Cardinal old team name (don't let Sen Warren track you down).

First game jitters. Even Ohio State took one half of a game to get rolling. USC will play better as will many of the other big programs.

Jitters?

This is a team who flew from three time zones away to play in USC turf, that lost their coach and likely won't contend for the MAC title.

A better word might be arrogant, unprepared, bored, or perhaps *gasp* overrated.

My take on Alabama’s play:

1. D-line was superb
2. Special teams were superb
3. O-line was good, but needs work
4. Defensive secondary in the first half looked like Saban had had the best recruiting season ever in France. Adjustments were made at half-time, and the secondary played progressively better until it started looking like Alabama.
5. QB...I think Saban got bored with winning so easily years ago and, to make his job more interesting, decided to show fans that Alabama can win without a QB. Hurts doesn’t throw well and couldn’t run much against FSU. The best that can be said of him is that he didn’t fumble the ball. Unless he “blossoms”, I would say that he wouldn’t even be a good FCS QB. Carson Wentz was better than any Tide QB in recent memory. Urban Meyer is a great coach and even condescends to recruit great QBs, along with other great players. I think Alabama is going to have a hard time against teams in the playoffs, if the Tide gets that far. Of course, the Tide ought to be a National Champion this year, like last, but the weakness at QB makes that problematic.
