Intense episode with an unfortunate twist but Dany and Jon are united in their goals now.
For a good synopsis click HERE.
The killing of the dead bear (sounds strange to say that) illustrates the need for more Dragonstone made weapons. It was the only thing that stopped it. The loss of Thoros means neither Jon nor Beric can come back from being dead unless the Red Witch shows up again.
The loss of Visarion the dragon is devastating but even worse is now the Night King has a dead dragon to revive as his own.
With only one episode left in this season; the final season next year should be epic. It looks like Cercei will survive into the next season but key players are dying. Who knew dragons could be killed with a simple ice tipped spear? Next week's episode is the longest of the season at 81 minutes. This one was 71.
Fine, but is there sex?
Night’s King is a walking (but not talking) AA weapon. He should really try to participate in Olympics. What a spear-thrower.
This is GoT; someone is naked somewhere. GoT has even made it on to porn sites.
A simple ice tipped spear thrown by someone thousands of years old who has the ability to bring the dead back to life. Do you think the dead dragon has enough firepower to melt the wall?
I do think the Arya / Sansa conflict is totally unnecessary. I suppose they they are setting up Arya to kill Littlefinger, but it just seems gratuitous to pit the sisters against each other.
Ice dragons breathe cold.
Watching the dragons immolate the white walkers left me thinking that the "good" forces are going to need a LOT more than just 2 dragons and a few thousand warriors armed with dragonstone weapons. That's why I think Samwell Tarley will play a key role next season by using his smarts to figure out *THE* way to defeat the Night King and his hordes.
I take it you got that information from the books because in that episode it didn’t attempt to breathe either fire or ice.
Makes me think the dragon will breath ice and not fire, will freeze the sea and the dead will just march around the wall atop the frozen ocean. And the Scorpion might stop the ice dragon....or a special horn, but ultimately if the Ice King is killed so will the dragon.
Now if Arya will use her special skills to ferret out Littlefingers intentions.
And for some weird reason i had a horrible vision that Cerci turns into a Ice Queen just so she can use ultimate powets.
It is now evident that killing the Night King defeats the Army of the Dead in an instant. So the military tactics require getting Jon Snow and his Companions in close single combat with the Night King. To me the military tactic is obvious — A large deep Phalanx with obsidian tipped spears. As long as they can neutralize the Ice Dragon (dog fight?) the Phalanx should cut through the Army of the Dead to deliver Jon & Company to the Night King. The battle would be decided in a brawl between the Captains & their Companions. Game over.
Another possibility is airmobile assault. Put Jon’s company on one dragon while Dany’s operates as a gunship to clear an LZ close to the Nights King. But again, you have to nail that Ice Dragon first.
Game of Thrones is turning into Warcraft III.
"An Army of Undead with their Undead Dragons will overrun the world if the Orcs and Humans don't put aside their differences and fight against their common enemy"
Don't believe me? Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAx3qfNyvpU
On that note, I seen too many movies, played too many games, where you have an extremely interesting setting and situations that is undone by giant evil that will destroy everything if we don't unite to stop them.
Warcraft III, Halo, Mass Effect are the three that immediately come to mind.
Such as in Mass Effect you have a wonderful time fighting crime and getting involved in Space Politics.
But, everything you do is undone in Mass Effect 3 because the Reapers arrive and destroy galactic civilization.
I just don't that that premise interesting.
The good stuff is in the title, The Game for the Throne.
The "Unite to stop the Apocalypse" bullocks is so played out for me.
Saw it - it keeps getting better.
Great points. Defeating the ice dragon will be tricky (possibly emotional, I’m guessing, for Danerys). I’m also wondering if there is some sort of armor plating the dragons could wear that would defeat (or at least deflect) those nasty spears that killed the one last night? At any rate, that is going to be one epic battle!!
Question, will the ice dragon still breath fire? Or ice?
Not yet, there hasn’t even been a naked body... It is truly disappointing. Hopefully John Snow and that Dragon babe will get together... Maybe even with a dragon in between... Ok... That does sound like a bit too much, but seriously... No naked bodies to date. Somethings gotta give.
BTW - I’m no rocket scientist, but I think I’ve figured out the ending... All the living people regardless of past issues, get together to defeat the dead people. In that fight the Dragon chick dies with no heir and that Baratheon bastard takes over with John’s little sister Arya as his bride. As for the rest of them, I have no idea who lives or dies... Oh... And that embarrassing dude with no junk will have a nasty demise... Whether it’s a heroic demise, or a cowards is yet to be determined but he has to go either way.
Scenario #2... John Snow and that dragon chick have a kid without dragon wings and they take over to rule.
I agree. GRRM is a meticulous writer deeply immersed in his source material, which is Dark Ages/medieval with some magic thrown in. He is concerned with internal consistency and logical plot development, which is a tricky thing in a magical universe. Once the show moved beyond the books, however, a very different orientation took over. The show writers seem immersed in a Hollywood/video game culture. The farther they get from the books, the more this element dominates.
Why send Brienne away?
They toned down the “porn with swords” aspect of GoT after the second season.
Apparently one or two people were offended and HBO caved.
