What is this ‘pay phone’ thing, of which you speak?
At least in AB, as pay phones get smashed by vandals, they are not repaired nor replaced. The nearest WORKING pay phone from my residence is at least 2 miles and I live in an inner-city suburb in Calgary.

Ten years ago, my understanding was they were primarily used for drug dealing.
