I have known a couple of conservative men who kept their marriages alive by never, ever saying anything political beyond, “yes dear.” My impression is, the wives talked about their liberalism but the husbands did not rise to the bait. (Frankly, I’d find that annoying, but having seen what divorce does, if I found myself in that position, I’d probably do the same. Essentially, I do the same with my sister, who thinks she’s conservative but isn’t.)

That can be incredibly exhausting.

Its one thing to hold your tongue in mixed company. With a wife, its almost impossible.

If a conservative marries a liberal, they're just signing up for a lifetime of misery. Sharing core beliefs and values in a marriage, is the bedrock of future happiness.
