First, the British were not fighting the French. Secondly Dunkirk is on the coast of France and thirdly World War Two did not end in 1940. The war in Europe ended on May 8th., 1945 it ended in the Pacific on Sept. 2nd., 1945.

Well, I know all that. I have a BA in history. My point is that the US education system does not prepare many people and the movie seemed to make no allowance for people who were ignorant.

I’d like to get a copy of “The Longest Day” that was filmed simultaneously with the French and Germans speaking English. For my wife...she can’t do subtitles. I tried watching that version once, and I just couldn't do it. Give me subtitles. That was another good thing about "Patton" as well.

Most people have no real idea there was a Second World War or a very vague idea at best. And as far as WW1? Forget it.
