National Right to Life Mourns the death of Charlie Gard

WASHINGTON – National Right to Life today joined a chorus of organizations and people worldwide in mourning the death of Charlie Gard, the British boy at the center of a worldwide euthanasia debate.

Connie Yates and Chris Gard, the parents of Charlie Gard, announced via social media today that “our beautiful boy” is gone after his life support was turned off.

Charlie Gard’s case sparked a worldwide debate about a so-called “quality of life” ethic after courts in the United Kingdom ruled against Charlie’s parents in their struggle to seek experimental treatment for a rare mitochondrial disease.

It is believed that Charlie could have benefitted from such experimental treatment, but the efforts of Connie Yates and Chris Gard to seek such treatment for their son were denied by the British hospital treating Charlie. The hospital decision was consistently upheld by the British courts.

“Our hearts break for Charlie Gard’s parents, and we join with them in their grief over Charlie’s death,” said NRLC President Carol Tobias.

No parent should ever have to bury a child and certainly no parent should ever be told by a court or government that their child must die. The case of Charlie Gard brings into grave perspective what can happen when the government controls a health care system: it alone can decide who lives and who dies.

Rest in peace, Charlie. Charlie Gard

All that mattered was their power, their authority. Little Charlie’s life meant nothing if to concede meant placing their power in jeopardy. It doesn’t end here. It will happen again as long as the left has authority.

The left is bereft of soul.

I have been avoiding this case because it infuriates me. But I pray for the family and am sorry the British government found it in their evil souls to murder the innocent child and tear out the hearts of his loving parents.

How does a government get to rule against the right to seek experimental treatment?

“How does a government get to rule against the right to seek experimental treatment?”

When they think they are the ones paying for it.

Imperfect children beware in Britain. Hitler finally conquered the country and would be so proud. The government and hospital have blood on their hands today. Never let anyone tell you capital punishment is banned in Britain. It is reserved only for the innocent.

I don’t like the way this was handled. I just don’t know, considering how very sick he was, that his life could have been saved. I am in favor of trying anything that would have possibly helped, keeping in mind that you also might come to the point of realizing that nothing is going to help. My wife’s cousin had a baby with something similar in some of its symptoms to what Charlie had. The baby had the problems with muscles and with breathing, but I don’t believe she had the seizures and the same kind of brain damage. She got treatment but died at about six months of age.

May God’s mercy and love wash over Charlie’s parents to heal their pain and help in all of their needs.

Rest in peace with heaven’s angels, sweet and precious child.

In Britain (which I love as it is my ancestral home on both sides of my family)the government rules for its own benefit rather than the benefit of the citizen.
