Methane is methane. From land fills to manure, outhouses too! And it can be harvested. Back in the 70’s this was a viable subject of discussion. Magazine articles from Popular Mechanics to Mother Earth News to Grit... etc... All featured the alternative power source.

There was a strange mainstream media embargo on the pranks played on Waters and McCain, et al. Snopes even expressed doubt that it was really Maxine's or McCain's voiced on the tape, claiming the two Russian pranksters may have faked their conversations. I'm not kidding.
