Robots that mimic ivy vines can grow thousands of times their original lengths at speeds faster than the average person can run, a new study finds.
The new soft, flexible robots could one day be used in tight situations, such as to slither through rubble or snake inside the human body...
The newly developed robot is made of soft, flexible polyethylene, the most common plastic in the world. It grows from its tip via internal air pressure, which pushes plastic tubing stored at its base up through the core of its body. The robot is initially about 11 inches (28 cm) long, but can rapidly reach a maximum length of about 236 feet (72 meters), according to the researchers.
"The body doesn't move as the tip extends," Hawkes told Live Science. "That is, you could hold the body of the robot tightly in your hands, and the tip would keep growing."

Well, see, I used to do crossword puzzles with a pen, before CFIDS came along and messed up my word substitution and spelling abilities. Now I use a pencil and make sure I have a large eraser for use when the pencil eraser gets hard and dry or if they just don’t erase well enough.
So yepper, Bob, you are, indeed, and optimist and it shows in your stories! :o]
I will be thinking about winter clothes, too, because I realized on my way to the laundromat that all my thermal shirts are at least five years old and getting very thin and holey from so many washings and wearing. The fleece yoga pants I buy are getting thin as well, as most of them are the same age as the thermal shirts.
Hopefully, things will be cheaper in Utah, so I can buy them there. (Now, I’m anxious to go! Just because I want to be there, instead of here!)
Did you come to visit NYC and I didn't notice?
Although here the "something like" would have had an "f" in it.
Got James some pajama pants. Got Kathleen a shirt, just because it was cute. Got Pat some shoes, but they’re too small. I’ll have to exchange them for a size bigger next time I go.
I assume you mean too small for Pat and not that you want to be sharing shoes.
Yes, just that.
Yes. Exactly. ;o]
I will go to Walmart in the morning and get some yogurt and rice pudding.
The clothing sounds cool. Except for the shoes. I hate small shoes. Of course, now that the steel pins are out of my toes, the shoe size can be within a half size and I can wear them.
There is something wrong with my printer and I don’t know what it is. The computer doesn’t recognize it, even though I downloaded the driver and other software again. This is not good because I have a letter waiting to be printed out so I can mail it to Grandson #3.
That's so in future time she can remember them frondly...
Too much the Magic Bots...
I want it...I want it...I want it...I want it...
You caaaaaan’t have it!
Heh, amusing.
It is raining here. Boy Scouts have called off their meeting this evening, but so far, classes and Cub Scouts are still on.
What kind of connection are you using? Is it USB? I've noticed the halloween candy is already in the stores so maybe your printer is using a USB costume.
Yes, it’s USB because it didn’t want to recognize the WiFi connection, either. So I’ve had this thing for a year, been printing almost every day, and now, since yesterday, it doesn’t want to print.
I thought it was my ink cartridge but the display says they (4) are all “full,” or close to it, and the test pages come out weak, at best, and faded to nothing at worst.
I uninstalled everything I could think of that might affect it, but when I reinstalled from the website, the result was still the same. So now, I’m flummoxed. It’s no biggie to uninstall and reinstall, and I’ll do it, but at the moment, I don’t know what to do.
Good evening All,
Arrived in York Yesterday Afternoon.
Will be traveling around the County (North) for the next few days.
Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow because I’m visiting a Village I’ve not been to before but is known to be something special.
The Beer and food are good, so that’s all the essential parts covered. :)
Hmmm...must be Minny-SO-ta! Keep us posted, please!!! <3
(Too bad you aren’t coming this way!)
Thank you .. prayers for you and yours also.
Squeeful kitteh!
‘Face present and accounted for. I am SO baffled by this printer. I need it. It worked fine one day and the next it acted like there was no ink, even though the read-out says all the cartridges are full.
I will totally unplug it, uninstall every program connected with it and start from scratch. If that doesn’t work, I’ll contact the company. It’s been a year since I got it, so I don’t think they will do anything but tell me to buy a new one.
Best wishes with the printer. It’s raining here. DP left for the office, and Pat turned up, but other than that, nothing but catz.
