Love that movie. Absolutely love it. “The Dude abides”.
Gen Lee’s quote, a good one. I have a book of the many letters he wrote. Live as you wish to some extent, so true, but the healthier you are in old age, the better is life. Too many people live miserable lives once they pass 60.
The studies are stupid, but the conclusions drawn from them are stupider. The most famous “study” was the idiocy of nightlights in bedrooms of kids “causing” nearsightedness. It should have been obvious that nearsighted kids needed the damned nightlights!
Wait a minute, just a few months/years back they told us coffee was bad for us. Now it’s good for us. Unless you drink that Starbucks crap, that makes you transgender or lbqtzmthmll!!
I wish they would stop this stupid news cycle of the day. Its lunacy!!
The vast majority of what we "know" about healthy eating came from the marketing department and not the scientists. Why are there beef recipes on the American Heart Association web site? Does milk really do a body good?
I had a heart scan and showed some calcium building in my coronary arteries. My Cardiologist did not refer me to the American Heart Association diet. He referred me to Dr. Fuhrman's Nutritarian diet. Pretty much turn the FDA Food Pyramid upside down. My Doctors advice was to eat primarily a plant based diet with very minimal animal based foods. His argument was that the human teeth and jaw are more like other herbivores and nothing like the omnivores. We are designed to eat plants. I can't say it is easy to stop eating meat, but it is working for me. Every metabolic function is greatly improved for me and I feel much better.
Funny, some freeper posted a link to a Youtube segment of the movie after the Dude gets knocked out and has that dream sequence, and I thought...huh...that is oddly funny!
When I watched the movie, the part where Julianne Moore comes flying out of the darkness with no clothes, suspended from some harness, splashing paint...made me spit my drink! That was so bizarre, I found it completely hilarious!
After watching it, I ended up buying a large bottle of Kahlua and Half & Half! That figures...
I’m 67 and drink a half gallon a day of coffee. Bloodwork came back last week and everything is nearly perfect, inside the bounds of good health.
I’m 78 and drink 5 or 6 cups a day. I don’t go to the Doctor either, and like you, so far so good. Hopefully it will go on for a while.
Congrats but a four year old at my same age as you would devastate me. I dont want any more responsibility at all. Im looking for less all the time and have taken care of others long enough.
Four six oz cups each morning. Down from many each day a year ago. Always drink it black.
I raised a kid in my 30’s and 40’s while I worked 2 jobs, I missed a lot.
Now I am fully retired, I have time for her. The poor girl is getting a lot of daddy involvement in her education. IMHO there is no better time to have a child than at my age, I am here for her (as long as I keep drinking coffee).
So for me I thank God every day for the gift of my daughter (and her tolerant mother). The downside being I will probably no be here for any grandchildren.
I too was part of raising children and feeling neglectful of the whole family since I was gone so much while staying employed for us.
For me though children are for the young but having a younger wife would help in that department but my wife of 40 years is just fine.
My wife is 25 years my junior, I am actually older than her mom.
To make it worse there is a wife's sister, sister's daughter (13), maid, and another woman worker to look after my spoiled daughter.
So I pass off the daughter to one of 5 other females when I am overwhelmed. I kind of forget that part, so yes, if it were just my wife and self, egad!!!!
So between these two threads, this means I'm a psychopath who's gonna live forever! :-)
PING
I buy Costco’s Don Pablo beans and the Sumatra when I can get it.
How about we agree to meet at top of Empire State Building on July 11, 2525 and share a cup of coffee? My treat!!!
This seems obvious to me. Any hot beverages daily will help pass the oils and other materials that need heat soften.
Thank You Sir! Everyone that ate pickles in 1860 is dead.
