I dropped in Google today. In the past, I could find articles posted at Freerepublic using a keyword search. Now all I can see is a link to Freerepublic and a small text window for a keyword search inside Freerepublic. All links to Freerepublic articles were deleted, except a few which mention Freerepublic and Google together.
Is it due to Freerepublic's request or Google's unilateral attempt to erase Freerepublic's footprint on Internet?
That search just on "Freerepublic" has always returned all links containing that keyword - on whatever site it occurs.
If in the past a higher percent of the returned links were to FR page, that could only mean that non-FR sites were mentioning the name "Freerepublic" far less frequently than they are mentioning it now.
To restrict your results to FR site you need to add to your search:
site:freerepublic.com {with no space after site:}
Pardon?
The old google cache would pull up posts here that had been deleted
And better listed their posting history via dates
If you know how to still do that please help me specifically I don’t know what other nations means
Wonderful! Thanks!
The new version is targeted to people using smartphones and looking at pictures, 1/3 of screen (left side) taken up just to list categories. Another 1/3 of screen (right side) taken up by ‘garbage links’. Then news headings with a picture and not even a paragraph or sentence regarding the story.
I do not think they have a link for the old design that was much faster to search and find relevant information. Now you have to scroll a lot. Searching in several languages takes ages. The information density/page is going to zero and the the multiple links to each topic are no longer immediately visible. Why are designers going for modern art instead of functionality?
This is Yahoo news again.
Unless you do keyword searches, you are not really going anywhere. It would be handy to have the list of keywords or phrases for your search.
The Internet has grown quite a bit since I used to access Prodigy on a 2400 baud dial-up. It would take several minutes for a thumBnail image to raster. I used to curse the early Freepers for putting images in their replies back in the late 1990s.
Now I have a fast internet but what I want right now is a big plate of bacon and fried eggs.
Current content is still indexed as it should be. Ex: https://www.google.com/search?q=%2Bsite:freerepublic.com+%2Brand
I just typed this in google:
freerepublic.com:CNN
Should have listed links to all threads with CNN in the title, starting with most recent, but it didn’t find this one:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3564732/posts
Retracted CNN story a boon for president at war with media
This works: https://www.google.com/search?num=20&tbm=nws&tbas=0&q=news
click on the link above and write the keywords for what you are looking for instead of “news”
But that's the case for any conservative news source. You typically have to wade through 5 or 6 pages of left wing-biased results.
