Teetering around in your highest heels, most glamorous dress and a towering hat all day is de rigueur for Royal Ascot. So it's no wonder revellers at Ascot were keen to kick off their stilettos and take the weight off as the afternoon wore on. Ladies Day attendees were seen positioning themselves on the grass in front of the grandstand to enjoy a drink and give their feet a well-earned rest. Seemingly unflustered about getting grass stains on their best outfits, racing fans were eager to kick back and relax amid the hordes.

I’ve never been a fan of all that fancy crap, so Ascot just looks like a fun party with women playing dress-up to me-nothing dirty going on-and who is to say what is “proper” for anyone but themselves?
I just always wonder why Brit women have such a thing for hideous hats-some of their headgear looks like they stole it from an exotic bird ranch or raided a used clothing store...
Being born and bred a SW Texas ranch woman who lives in BFE-stiletto heels/f’me shoes and a fancy dress are only for wearing if you go to a ladeda nightclub, cocktail party or maybe a wedding-there are no nightclubs or cocktail parties out here-and there are a lot of cowboy weddings where boots and jeans are the attire du jour. Last time I dressed up like that was when MrT5 and I used to go to the officers’ club at FSH for dinner and drinks-that was nearly 20 years ago-we lived in a burb then-I do still keep a few fancy outfits just in case I’m invited to something 50 miles away in the nearest real city...

Even the British press would seem to specialise in half-truths, fakery and outright lies these days.

If they all were dressed like this at Ascot it would make Churchill Downs look like a picnic in the park with juleps.
At bars it happens around closing time. At Ascot it happens a little earlier.
