All of you Freepers are invited to further discuss these terms down the hall here in our new “Collaboration Room”.

The favorite phrases of a director I worked for are “at the end of the day” and “it is what it is”. He loves to combine them into the super cliché: “at the end of the day it is what it is.”

This guy uses all the jargon.

“There is a new spirit running through the Democratic Party,”Mr. Ellison said. “We’re coming out strong. We’re knocking every door. We’re a ‘coast to coast and everyone in between’ party. We’re involved in all these things. Where as before we might have been too focused on the presidential every four years, now we fight these things every single day and everywhere so that is a new way of moving forward and it’s winning politics.”

Right next to the “War Room” no doubt.

If you are not in the military, you are not really at war and have no “war” room.

It could be worse, “at the end of the day, the existential metrics are it is what it is”

I am a Spof. I do not like it. It makes vacations very hard.

If I am not on top of every little thing, then something fails.

I use “holistic” a lot, actually.

Yes! I once worked for a global ‘Big Pharma’ and the War Room hand a fancy bronze plaque mounted on the door
that warned us lesser employees not to enter.

A little pretentious, don’t you agree?

“moustache wash”
Sorry, I’ve got to steal that one from your uncle.
“Bumping your gums” has been over used in my particular situation.

When I worked in an office, that was the phrase I hated the most. “At the end of the day.” Hated it, maybe because of who was overusing it.

Many of these phrases were originally clever. Taken from sports, etc. meant to convey something clearer, and it often works.

The worst problem is that they get overused by usually low imagination boring bosses.

Yes. I hope the employees at your old company who entered the “War Room” were always careful to wear their helmets and Kevlar vests, and carry their M-16s and other battle gear.

Before every staff meeting I printed a copy of my “Wonk Word Bingo” game. Every time someone spit out one of those annoying phrases and it was in one of the boxes I’d X out that box. It was interesting to see how long it would take to hit a bingo. I was in H.R. so it didn’t take too long.

Can’t stand it. Same reason as the others. When words are used without applying the purpose of them.

(Many) People who say “holistic approach” have no intention of being truly holistic about their approach.

I’ve heard that combo as well. If it were the start of the day would it NOT still be what it is?

Tardy reply, sorry -

“So”, I’ve been busy “dialoging” and having important “conversations” on the necessity to “shift the paradigm”, create more “holistic” responses and “synergistic partnerships” “in terms of” my “resource providers” such that “a “solutions-oriented” outcome can be shared with “key stakeholders”.

In Friday lingo - get sh*t squared away....like I do everyday....
