Some time in the late 1990s, they changed the “ideal” weight chart, which immediately put a lot of people that were in the normal range into the overweight range, and many previously overweight into the obese range. Now, in order to be “normal”, you have to be a pencil-necked geek. Even the most svelt of NFL players is at least considered overweight.
The problem is that they categorize based solely on BMI, which does not take into account body fat percentage or musculature.
Men and women are also to be the same weight now.
The owner probably wanted to do it himself. Watched a bunch of youtube videos. Then went to home depot, got the wrong water heater. Returned it, went to a different store, got one there.
Took a nap.
Got the wife to help him install it. Then realized he wanted to put in a tankless water heater. Watched a bunch more youtube videos. Went to the city to get a permit.
Dang this could take a month!
For those who have never been there...
My brother and I (old white guys riding Harleys) rode into Myrtle Beach on the Sunday of the event. We were told by a hotel staffer on the phone the day before that the event would be over and it would be OK to ride there.
When we arrived it looked like a war zone. There were barrels in the median with fires burning in them. There were thousands of crotch rockets with king/queen seats doing wheelies down the middle of the main highway in front of the Best Western on the North end. There were cops all over the place. There were roving gangs of thugs with gang clothing on - walking up and down the median and the sidewalks.
I parked and walked into the hotel to tell the desk clerk to cancel my stay - again I was assured it would be safe! When we tried to leave about a dozen thugs decided to slow stroll in front of us so we couldn’t move - I had to do the illegal act with a firearm to get them to disperse.
Upon riding out of the driveway a police officer directed us down a side street where a group of police advised us to leave and provided the fastest way to do that. We rode for another hour to Florence, SC where we enjoyed a peaceful stay for the night.
We will never stay at the hotel in question again and probably won’t ever visit Myrtle Beach in our lifetimes...That is how “welcoming” the event made us feel.
A very common tactic. I've found the best thing is to not let them know how annoying it is. They want a scene and I won't give it to them. It takes a lot of self control to not explode.
The problem is the businesses get sued if they close because of the NAACP. Between all the property damage, thieving, extra police, cleaning up the city from all the feces and other disgusting mess left everywhere I’ll bet neither the city or businesses recover in the year from it. There was an End Black Bike Week FB page in previous years but this year they really shut down any people’s complaints about it. There’s plenty of disgusting videos on youtube they are proud to post. I actually think there must be a trophy for the fattest ass wearing a thong and twerking on the back of a crotch rocket or stuck out the window of a car with low pros. Of course maybe they aren’t low pros but just all that tonnage inside makes it look like they are.
A cruise up hwy 17 or down 17 would have been advisable. They stick to Myrtle.
So what is the NAACP going do about it? Boycott them on Biker week? Complain to Obunghole?
When I was into running a few years ago, I got down to 193. Which, to me, was a little light for my 6’2” height. Apparently, my friends thought so too and chided me about being anorexic.
But, according to the charts, I was at the high end of the “normal” range. Realistically, when I was younger and pretty fit, I was in the 210-215 range and that was right. Lean, strong, flexible, dang, I miss those days. I still had 6-pack abs, and they weren’t hidden behind the keg.
