Can you also provide us with an actual photo of a satellite or the ISS from earth?

Since anyone with a cheap Nikon can get focus on the moon (at what, 233K miles away?) let’s see a photo of an actual satellite.

I mean, we’ve been told there is “so much space junk” up there... where are the photos, from earth, from everyday people with cheap Nikons, of a satellite?

If we were living in the year 1965, I’d agree with you, but optics have gotten so much better.

The inexpensive Nikon P900 Coolpix can get focus on the moon at 233,000 miles away, so focussing in on a satellite should be a piece of cake at a few miles away.

Your question reminds me, I think because of the advanced state of optics on cameras and telescopes these days, I recall someone asked NASA why they can’t get a shot of the flag on the moon or any other landing gear that was left there, or even the Chinese moon shot itself.

At least the Hubble should be able to get a shot of the moon trash left up there, and should have been able to shoot the Chinese moon walk.

I mean if with a cheap Nikon, I can focus on the surface of the moon, how much better would the Hubble be, in shooting the landing of spacecraft on the moon or focussing in on space trash left there?

It’s just so weird that they didn’t already give us those photos. Or that no one asked the Chinese to take a real photograph of the earth from the moon.

I am a professional photographer.

I have a Nikon d4 and use a 400 2.8 telephoto on a regular basis.

The moon is huge and it reflects a ton of light.

A satellite is tiny and moving. Fast. It’s not going to happen. Especially with a prosumer camera.

Nice shot, but it was taken in 2009. Imagine if someone did time lapse on their Coolpix now.

Again, if we can shoot the moon, literally, with a cheap camera, a close up on the Shuttle in daylight would be no big deal.

As a fellow Christian and Bible believer -- as well as a retired physical scientist, I had hoped that you have sufficient intellect and education -- as well as sense of proportion and perspective -- to allow a rational conversation. Obviously, that is not the case.

Your inability to distinguish between "focusing on" a huge object like the moon -- versus a tiny object like a satellite -- is a nearly-insurmountable barrier to rational communication -- in this case, between fellow believers.

The ISS is ~295 feet long -- compared to a Boeing 747-8I's wingspan of ~245 feet. Can you see a 747 at its 35,000 foot cruising altitude? Not without binoculars.

35,000 feet is a mere 6.63 miles -- yet the ISS orbits at an altitude (distance) of 186 miles. Can you see a 747 at 186 miles away? No. Neither can you see the ISS at that distance (without a telescope) Yet, you can see the Moon at well over a thousand times that distance -- 238,000 miles (on average) -- with your God-created, unaided eyeball.

Please explain why we cannot see some of the ten to 170 million pieces of "space junk pollution" we've been told about for decades? LOL.

And seeing the moon with the naked eye is not the same as racking focus with a cheap Nikon on its topical features with distinct shadow lines and craters, etc.

If you can rack focus on an object 2000 miles in diameter from 250,000 miles away with a Nikon Coolpix, you can rack focus on an object 180 miles away or 8 miles away with that same camera...

Please educate yourself on focal plane, focal distance, depth of field and what it means to "focus" inside a camera or scope and how this relates directly to distance from the lens. I'm old enough to have shot film were my DP had to use a measuring tape.

Those shots of ISS are ridiculous in lack of detail.
