Justus Walker was enjoying his Grade 11 class in sociology. Then came the lesson on white privilege. The teacher handed out a checklist with instructions for the students to score themselves on how much of it they had. The questions included things such as: I can go into a supermarket and find the staple foods which fit with my cultural traditions. The answers would determine their privilege points. After they had completed the exercise, the students were asked to line up in order, from least points to most, and discuss the impact of white privilege on their lives.
Some of the questions were hard to answer, because Justus is multiracial some Scottish, some Jamaican, some Indian, and so on. Which cultural traditions is he supposed to identify with? He doesnt self-identify by race, ethnic origin, or skin colour. I just am Canadian, he says. As for ethnic food, I can find Jamaican food in a grocery store but I cant find haggis.
White privilege is now a part of the Ontario school curriculum. It is taught in teacher training, and is a routine part of anti-bias education. The idea is that white people benefit from unearned advantages based on race. Canada is depicted as a deeply racialized society where people are automatically advantaged, or disadvantaged, by their skin tone, race and (by extension) gender.
Justus and his mom, Karen, were guests this week on Ontario Today, a CBC Radio call-in show that, to its great credit, dared to tackle this incendiary subject. Among the other guests was Arlo Kempf, who has taught anti-discrimination to teachers at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Adding the lens of privilege implicates everyone in the conversation, he explained. We have to look at those invisible spaces of whiteness where privilege goes unchecked.

I think your very last line, “Make the mentally unhinged decide to pay Whitney back,” has a good chance of becoming true, if it hasn’t already.
The first step for genocide is to dehumanize the targeted group
The second step is to disarm them
Meanwhile apply liberal amounts of scapegoating
No. I think most of us here whether we were in Somalia or some other country would be extremely respectful as to their customs and being a guest in their country.
Wir mussen die Vereinigen Staten weissrein machen!
“White privilege” is an attempt to understand the empirical evidence by people who believe in equality.
The more data they are exposed to, the crazier they get.
This is why fascination with “white privilege”, and its accompanying historical fictions is so strong among high achievers. As long as they maintain their faith in equality, the more diversity they encounter the more challenged they become for a theory or framework to comprehend reality.
“White privilege” fills the bill.
The cultural suicide is already well under way.
These morons are using the law to create segregation again.
Mathematically improbable.
They kill too many of themselves invitro or on the streets and refuse to recognize they have created and nurse a cutural mindset based on color.
The many immigrants of various races coming to this country don’t concern themselves with that.
I have a friend from Venezuela, Black and handsome. He rose to the top of his profession in the ballet world.
Another friend who is apparently black and from Ghana laughs at American blacks and considers them stupid. Not because they are, as he doesn’t believe they are. He thinks they are stuoid for holding a belief system that is counter to what is avaible to them and anyone else in this country.
One of the top salesmen in his profession and his son will enter college this year on scholarship.
That’s just two “Black” guys I know and that is before I relay any stories of the Mexicans who glow with pride about the opportunities afforded them and their children in America, which are unavailable anywhere else south of the border.
Each is proud to be an American and incredibly grateful to God and their fellow citizens for a life they could never have achieved in their home countries.
Except for my from Ghana, where everyone is black and the society is one of caste, they know of real racism in their respective country of origin.
I have a hard time finding Zatarain’s crab boil and plain fish fry. On cable there are 200 music channels, multiple Brazilian categories, yet not one Cajun music like I used to listen to on WYNK on Sunday mornings in Baton Rouge. Maybe I should whine and fuss about it.
We should have picked our own cotton.
Fire the teacher.
My local store better start carrying monkey meat and bush meat or they are racist.
You have 200 music channels on your cable? I think our system only has about 40. Your cable privilege has been noted.
Its a small jump from the second statement to the first.
The latter says the same as the former, but with a touch of "marketing".
Where’s my dang squirrel meat??? And my possum filets, or my groundhog burger, doggone it!!! They could at LEAST have deer tenderloin. /whine
White (Southern) privilege, Pffft!!
Be careful not to do any cultural infringement.
Some enterprising entrepreneur should erect a “White privilege check room” at the entrance of colleges and universities. For a small fee, whites can check their privilege, get a receipt, and on their exit, exchange the ticket for their privilege back, while tipping the check girl.
It is happening now. Only white countries are targeted for muslim and other phony refugees and immigrants. Been thismway for a long time now. Only whites are guilt shamed to stop resistance to it, and only whites can be racist while minorities murder at whim and are excused, and all this garbage is tossed around.
You certainly should be able to and you already can. Then they will behead you.
Privilege is something you have earned when you work for it.
