Former James Bond star Roger Moore has died after a battle with cancer, his family confirmed Tuesday. He was 89.
Moore, who epitomized James Bond in seven films from 1973 to 1985, died in Switzerland after a short but brave cancer fight, according to a statement released by his three children.
The love with which he was surrounded in his final days was so great it cannot be quantified in words alone, said Moores kids, Deborah, Geoffrey and Christian.

A Saint for the ages...
Indeed, RIP.
Condolences to the family and friends of “The Saint/007”
Now that I think about it, I’m sure Mr. Moore had some influence on my selection of a profession...
Yes, Roger Moore as James Bond was saddled by poor writing and directing. The Bond genre was suffering from being in a rut when Moore played the role. Having said that, Moore was in a rut as well and he should have moved on and the series should have moved on. But it was a steady acting gig with some very hot young actresses, so why not?
Obviously the best Bond is Sean Connery, but I have taken a liking to Daniel Craig. There was a latent dark side to Sean Connery’s Bond, and it comes out more pronounced with Craig in the role.
Beau Maverick-——gorgeous guy.
He was not my favorite James Bond ( Sean Connery is ), yet, I have to say that he was fun to watch. I will miss him.
In the real world, James Bond should have died as early as Goldfinger. These villains could have just shot him and that would have been the end of 007, but they have to device some esoteric torture machine and leave him alone to die and then give 007 the chance to escape with one of his clever gadgets !! SHEESH.
Rant aside Roger Moore remains a classy man who used his fame to good use. He was known for his generosity and philantropy. He also spoke Italian perfectly ( his former wife Luisa Mattioli is Italian ).
Yes, believe you are correct.
My dad seldom missed that show. (we children enjoyed it as well) Bright stars of yesterday rapidly fading away in today’s harsh light. How sad.
Yea that was pretty funny.
RIP
Yea hated his Bond, turned the series into a joke.
So very sad. The first Bond I can remember, and I watched re-runs of the The Saint as a kid. My favorite Bond was Goldfinger. He seemed a soft spoken and down to earth kind of guy off camera. RIP, Sir Roger.
Agreed
Damn. What a great 24 hours for the UK. :(
RIP
He’s my mom’s favorite Bond.
I ran into him in the steak house of the Regent Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia, of all places in 2001.
My dining companion recognized him and got excited and went to his table and asked for an autograph. Moore very graciously gave her the autograph and chatted for a bit. A very nice guy and such a striking contrast to the overall nasty streak to today’s ‘stars’.
Riverboat ring your bell
RIP Roger Moore.
Not my favorite actor, but the 2 people I know who knew him (St James Club), one of the nicest guys who ever lived. Pure class.
RIP
I agree. As The Saint, he was great. Bond? No thanks. But he seemed like a decent fellow, as actors go. Interviewing for the Saint, he was told he would need to kiss his co-stars frequently. Did he object?
Well, he replied, I’ll make sacrifices for my craft...
:>)
#19 I bet you like Jean Luc Picard over James T Kirk! : )
He’s your favorite Bond too.
Sad. I remember seeing “For Your Eyes Only” at the movie theater. He took a lot of guff for his portrayal of 007. But as I’ve always maintained: Look at the scripts Sir Roger had to work with. Sean Connery (the best 007), 100% had the cream of the crop, story wise.
RIP, sweet man. I’m really sad about this. :(
RE: Manchester. Id love to get some real numbers on what this does to the Whites in the UK: Do they finally wake up or continue to allow the psychotic sand googles to take over?
And how about going tactical on that black cube the sand googles pray to in Mecca? It can be just another “minor incident” in the name of multiculturalism.
