Why Kids Should Never Play With Water Guns. Period.
popsugar.com ^ | May 17, 2017 | LAUREN LEVY

My mom was pretty relaxed during our childhood and only had a few nonnegotiable, never ever going to change, concrete rules. Her biggest: no water guns.

This water gun ban had nothing to do with water shooting toys in general (though with four kids running around it would've made sense that she didn't want the water wars) and everything to do with her firm belief that guns are not toys. We still had all of the same Summer fun, but with water squirters that didn't look like deadly weapons and never trivialized this important topic. We didn't make childhood memories with an object inspired by something that kills kids daily.

We didn't have a gun in our home, but I think my mom's passionate stance on water guns is even more important for those who do. A gun is a serious and powerful object that can permanently destroy lives. The sooner people start taking this topic seriously, the safer our children will be.

Error loading media: File could not be played Even if they're colorful and super cool, kids shouldn't be playing with water guns because it normalizes the real thing. Kids need to learn that guns aren't toys. There's nothing fun or playful about this serious topic and it doesn't matter if it's a water pistol or a semi-automatic rifle — a firearm isn't a laughing matter.

My memory is fading, but I seem to recall we referred to them as: Drill Instructor or Senior Drill Instructor but we couldn’t call them that directly.

Directly, it was “Sir” to start and “Sir” to end.
as in:
“sir, yes sir”, “ sir, no sir”, “ sir, aye-aye sir” and
“sir, the private doesn’t know, sir.”

Methinks LAUREN LEVY is a negligent parent who doesn’t teach her children properly.

Lauren, take your child to a range nearby, and ask to speak with the NRA instructor. You will be doing a very good thing for your daughter, yourself and your entire family.

If you don’t, stfu and sit down.

:-) Glad you liked that!

I am so thankful for the mother I had. Always worried about what trouble I might get into but never banned any kind of toys or activities I wanted to pursue. I know that caused her a lot of anxiety too, she was a world champion worrier, but she did her level best not to inflict or project her anxieties onto me.

I was in charge of the Toy Gun Arsenal on my Street.

We had Battery Operated M1 Carbines, battery operated Tripod Mounted Machine Guns, Cap Pistols, BB Guns and my favorite, Wrist Rocket Slingshots. I even had a dummy Hand Grenade my Father brought back from the War.

Those were the days. Wish I still had all that stuff.

"What is the propellant used in that? Looks like fun"

Calcium Carbide and a few drops of water to produce extremely flammable acetylene gas.

My brother’s psycho ex-wife wanted their son to be free from exposure to guns. She wouldn’t let him have a toy gun when he was little. One time I was visiting when my nephew was maybe six years old. The kid was running around the yard with a stick he’d found, shooting it like a gun. I laughed my ass off.

We were five. I have four and ten Gg.

Passed on this from a very wise Mom, born in the West.

Kids can have every kind of play gun. Only....kids must use them like they are real. No shooting at others. Careful when shoot that no one else is around. Carry them down. Store them properly. Etc.

Hahahaha. The world is full of stupid people. I grew up with cap pistols and real guns in the house which were never locked up. Had two sisters and a brother, all if us fine shots, I gave my boys in Sunday School class water pistols as a reward when they learned the ten commandments. They ALL turned out well! The attempt to turn our children into wimps is disgusting! These people need to be locked up as a danger to national security!

I remember having my shotgun in my gun rack in the back window of my truck in high school. Nobody thought a thing about it.

We had cap guns, water guns, and other sorts of toy guns when we were kids. They were very common play toys, and few people had a problem with them.

What we did not have back then were schools where the teachers and administrators were deep down in the "mental retardation" levels.

We also did not have IQ limits on police and other government workers to ensure that only mentally retarded applicants could get those jobs.

We had adult parents, teachers, and police who were responsible adults.

Today, 97% of adults are below average. If you think the math doesn't make sense, you're right. Nothing makes sense in this bizarre twilight zone.
