My mom was pretty relaxed during our childhood and only had a few nonnegotiable, never ever going to change, concrete rules. Her biggest: no water guns.
This water gun ban had nothing to do with water shooting toys in general (though with four kids running around it would've made sense that she didn't want the water wars) and everything to do with her firm belief that guns are not toys. We still had all of the same Summer fun, but with water squirters that didn't look like deadly weapons and never trivialized this important topic. We didn't make childhood memories with an object inspired by something that kills kids daily.
We didn't have a gun in our home, but I think my mom's passionate stance on water guns is even more important for those who do. A gun is a serious and powerful object that can permanently destroy lives. The sooner people start taking this topic seriously, the safer our children will be.
Error loading media: File could not be played Even if they're colorful and super cool, kids shouldn't be playing with water guns because it normalizes the real thing. Kids need to learn that guns aren't toys. There's nothing fun or playful about this serious topic and it doesn't matter if it's a water pistol or a semi-automatic rifle a firearm isn't a laughing matter.

Your thoughts?
Guns are not toys. Water guns are not guns. Water guns are toys
Pinheads gotta be pinheads, I guess.
Is this a joke?
Written like a child like snowflake.
Liberals are not logical. Liberalism does not contain logic. Liberalism is a religion of hate. Liberals hate it when anyone anywhere is having fun.
Hard to believe there are really people this stupid.
This toy gun was okey dokey in the 1950's so I have no problem with water cannons
No, she’s series.
That’s an example of binary thinking on your part — binary thinking is out of style in today’s world. We must all become more nuanced in our approaches to the world’s problems. /s
And if you load a super soaker with holy water, you can credibly be accused of attempting to assassinate Hillary Clinton.
I am getting soooo old. I remember in elementary school itaking my plastic Winchester 30/30 lever action for recess. I remember having my shotgun in my gun rack in the back window of my truck in high school. Nobody thought a thing about it.
Remember when kids played with toy guns, and when a sweet popular song could have such lyrics?
OMG, I may get censored for sharing this memory. But, we played with toy guns too. In fact, back in my day, we played World War II, with toy machine guns.
And, what will get me censored, is that we divided into teams, and somebody would be the “Japs” or “Jerries” as the bad guys.
I wonder if Lauren was standing on a chair squealing when she wrote this drivel.
Oh for gawd’s sake!
“Liberalism is a religion of hate.”

I think you have just hit on why progressives have an irrational affinity for islam.
Kids won’t be kids forever. If you raise them like they’re helpless sheep, they’ll just be vulnerable wimps as adults, unable to handle the real world.
Lauren, I believe the issue is that your mother realized you were too dense to realize the difference between a water gun and a real gun.
As for my mother, she allowed us to play with water toys because she had faith that we wouldn’t grow up to be clueless idiots. We have all grown up to be non-criminal tax paying responsible citizens. Thanks anyway, Lauren.
When you have no husband/father in the home who is a Man, you have no set limits for male children and to a smaller extent, female children.
In the home where I grew up, there were hand guns and long guns “put away’ but not so I could not have been industrious and get at them. But I did not. My father taught me the limits on any number of things.
It did not make me “fascinated” with the forbidden however, didn’t own a personal handgun until I was past 55.
I carry a large walking stick when I walk for exercise. I explain I am too old to run from dogs. Same thing with a hand gun.
