Did Trump Set Up Comey? President Warns Ousted FBI Boss There Might Be 'Tapes'
Daily Mail ^ | 05/12/17 | David Martosko

Donald Trump lobbed a veiled threat at the former FBI director on Friday, hinting that some of their conversations before his firing may have been recorded.

'James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!' the president tweeted.

It's unclear whether Trump was warning that the White House is recording his calls, or if he believes the FBI may have been recording Comey's. Trump said Thursday during an interview with NBC News that the two men have spoken at least three times since Inauguration Day.

And on those occasions, he insisted, Comey assured him that he was not personally the subject of any federal investigations. 'He said it once at dinner and then he said it twice during phone calls,' Trump said.

He described a matter-of-fact exchange over dinner in which he asked an unusual question and got an unconventional response. 'I said, "If it's possible would you let me know, am I under investigation?" Trump recalled.

'He said, "You are not under investigation".'

It would also explain why Comey refused to look into the unmasking and leaking He already knew who was doing it—and it was ...... Staff on his orders

I assume the exact opposite. The increased danger to Queen Hlllary, and themselves, will make them more desperate, aggressive and reckless. My very unpopular preference that Trump not engage in pro-wrestling taunts with these pissants is not based on pacifying them, but on letting action, not “tweets” do the talking. Trump showed he was boss by firing the bastid. Comey can leak like Hillary’s Depends, but he’s still fired.

Next steps: install new Director. New Director fires McCabe and FBI Hillary protectors. Rod Rosenstein expels the Hillary Defense Team within DoJ. Expose massive obstruction of justice operation, politicization of the Intel Community, and Obama administration interference in the election. Prosecute Hillary and company for pay-to-play and violations of the Espionage Act. No warnings required.

The endless foot dragging on these Comey investigations was enough to get him fired, among my inclinations.

However, McCabe is not any more trust worthy than Comey and it’s McCabe’s FBI people who scrubbed and sealed Comey’s office and papers, according to his testimony yesterday to the Intel Comm. in the Senate.

If Trump is making recordings in the White House (or in the course of his official duties), those recordings could be subject to discovery or disclosure under subpoena or FOIA. Even they aren’t, there will certainly be a legal fight about them. Therefore, by insinuating he was making recordings, Trump has set himself up for a legal fight he didn’t need whether the recordings exist or not.

And if they don’t exist, while I’m sure he’ll claim he was speaking in the hypothetical, it makes him look disingenuous (and won’t necessarily stop the legal fight).

This one was a mistake.

Comet could be lying, and someone else got there before McCabe.

This is where we will have to agree to disagree. IMHO, by not rhetorically firing back via tweets, Pres. Trump in effects cedes control of the narrative to the Media.

Once that control is lost, it is difficult to get back — look at what happened in the Bush administration.

I would submit, these people have been hiding behind the shield of “polite company” for far too long. In my opinion, the time for nice polite company is over.

Furthermore, on some level, these tweets create fear in the minds of those who would oppose Pres. Tump — this is a good thing as that fear can lead to unforced errors that help make the case for Pres. Trump that much stronger.

BTW, I agree with most of the next steps.

Not sure, though, that anyone else could be authorized to seal the office.

This seal and scrub is my paraphrase, my words, btw, not McCabe’s.

With great satisfaction McCabe responded to Kamala Harris (Marxist senator from Kaulifornia) who asked him about poor Comey’s office, since he was out of state at the time, and assured her it was under control (paraphrasing).

No one else could over ride FBI protocols for sealing offices and contents after a dismissal, without a huge news burst.

Trump has just set his counsel’s office up to the impossible job of fighting off subpoenas for a taping system that (hopefully) does not exist.

Speaking as an attorney, this is a horrifying mistake. The number of attempts to prove the existence of these “tapes” and acquire them if they exist are nearly unending.

The fact that Spicer didn’t flat out dismiss this notion is crazy as well.

Trump is currently in court fighting for his travel ban executive order. The silly argument being made is that his past campaign statements show an attempt to target Muslims.
What’s to stop the ACLU or anyone from attempting to subpoena the tapes of conversations regarding discussion around the order?

What makes you think Trump recorded anyone besides lying rats like Comey?

I have no idea. I don’t know anything except that the counsel’s house is going to spend the rest of their natural lives in discovery hearings now.

Exactly. Trump has done a good job as president in a number of respects but this was a really dumb move on his part.

Did Hillary’s office get new carpet the day after?

Reportedly, Foster was found with carpet fiber on his clothing...

Therefore, by insinuating he was making recordings, Trump has set himself up for a legal fight he didn’t need whether the recordings exist or not.

He insinuated no such thing. Maybe Comey is the one doing the "recordings" and Trump became aware of them. There were two telephone calls and one dinner.

How would a legal fight be triggered? Certainly not with a tweet.

And if they don’t exist, while I’m sure he’ll claim he was speaking in the hypothetical, it makes him look disingenuous (and won’t necessarily stop the legal fight). This one was a mistake.

He wasn't tweeting in the hypothetical. He just said, "James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"

Remember when Trump tweeted that Obama was "wiretapping" him? The MSM and the Dems said he was crazy. It turns out it was true as we now know about the FISA warrant on the Trump campaign and transition teams.

Maybe NSA has the recordings of the telephone calls. We also know that the DOJ IG is investigating Comey and his leadership team.
