Why chihuahuas?
Probably because people tend to baby them and allow them to act like little monsters since they’re so small and “cute”, and eventually, they find out their little Pepe has the temperament and bite of a Velociraptor.

Around here they are everywhere because of all the Mexicans. I was at the county animal shelter a while back looking to adopt. They had Pit Bulls and Chihuahuas all over the place. Dozens of each. I noticed a Veterinarian walking down the row of kennels with a checklist in his hand, and assistant in tow. I noted that he was shaking his head and muttering something as he checked off items on his list. Listening more closely I was able to hear what he was muttering.
“Pit Bulls and Chihuahuas... Pit Bulls and Chihuahuas”
And nobody wants them. But on the day that two purebred Chocolate Labs showed up, and I inquired about adopting one or both, I was informed that if the owner didn’t show up to claim them there would be a lottery to see who gets them. (The owner claimed them)
I’m sure there must be fine specimens of Pit Bulls and Chihuahuas out there... I’ve just never run into one. The Pit Bulls I’ve seen carry a posture of physical intimidation and the Chihuahuas are yappers. And based on how their owners seem to abandon them (around these parts anyway), I don’t have high hopes for either breed.
