Sometimes an otherwise calm dog is simply annoyed and has ‘had it up to here’ with something his owner has been doing or making him keep doing. A few weeks ago, I heard of a family dog (Not a Pit, I don’t think) going nuts after the Lady of the House tried to put a too-tight knitted Xmas Sweater on him. The dog went bonkers. The entire family of three people had to run out of the house, and call 911.
How many people were killed, had their faces ripped off or limbs severed? If the number is greater than zero there is a VERY good chance it’s at least a pit mix...
A dog that’s “had it up to here” growls and if provoked bites and releases. There are many accounts of pit bulls rushing out the door past the owner and attacking people like they are his food or natural prey. The pits typicall bite and hold, thrashing like a shark in an attempt (often successful) to sever large chunks of flesh and bone. That doesn’t sound like a golden retriever now, does it?
The evil that Pits do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones.

So you’re making an assumption that the VICTIM had to have caused the attack? I have an 11 pound mini-dachshund, who goes ape if we pick up a box around him. (No, we’ve never done anything to him that gives him a reason to go nuts around boxes). He’s old and cranky, and we always put him in a closed room when we have company, because he’s unpredictable. I guess I’m glad he’s not a pit bull, or we’d be dead meat.
People who put sweaters on dogs deserve what they get.
