The idea of bringing people back from the dead by transplanting their brains into donor bodies may sound like science fiction.
But the bizarre vision could be a reality within three years, according to a controversial Italian surgeon.
Professor Sergio Canavero is famed for his plans to carry out the first human head transplant next year, and says that he will then focus on brain transplants.

Larry Niven’s “Arm” stories to place in a world where executions were common to feed the organ banks. In one story, the policeman was investigating a 20-something heir that went missing for a while and his sister was brain damaged beyond a coma state. They were trying to figure out what happened, as well as reasons why.
One bad guy did a brain transplant into the kid’s body, taking over his life, but brain wiped the sister so she wouldn’t notice. (No other family to see the change.) The thought of doing a brain transplant hadn’t occurred to anyone because of the value of a dead body as a donor - it could save or extend a dozen lives or more, so no one even considered it.
In this case, you don’t just lose out on the organ donations with the brain transplant, but the odds of success are essentially zero.
The movie could be called Experiment in Terror, but that title has already been taken.
I can see one major problem.
You cannot ask the brain what gender it self designates as.
If you pick the wrong gender donor body, you could be sued.
Would you have to take it back out and switch to correct body?
Or, do a Brucie, with an additional cost.
And, will the new CA single payer cover this????
Be glad to round up "donors", by the cord, or by the gross. Portland is a vast store of useless bodies, young, healthy(ish), with easily influenced and functionally marginal brains.
If it ever becomes viable Niven predicted that the death penalty would soon be enacted for things like jay walking and fender benders, right? It would be old rich people getting body parts from young criminals to extend life. Pretty gruesome. If I remember that was part of the impetus for some of humanity to actually leave earth and start living in space, it’s been a while since I read those.

Yes, and people supported it as both population control and increasing life expectancy. There were characters living to 140 with the help of said transplants.
“Professor Sergio Canavero”
he’s not that Eyetalian cold fusion Prof too is he? Or is this guy a different Eyetalian con artist “Perfessor”?
As for the Chinese participants... I think Unit 731 ‘got to their heads’... >.<
There was a video on either Fox or One American News that purportedly showed a mouse that he had transplanted a head on that was kinda walking/crawling. I wouldn’t want to go through that to end up a quadriplegic. But then again Stephen Hawking should have been dead years ago from ALS but chose to be artificially kept alive so I guess it would depend on how much you wanted to remain here.
