NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) Platforms were packed and some riders were stuck underground in the dark after a power outage in Midtown Manhattan backed up trains all over the city, making for a nightmare commute during the Friday morning rush hour.
Hundreds of riders were packed inside a D train when it got stuck in a tunnel just short of the subway stop at Seventh Avenue and 53rd Street after the signals lost power around 7:30 a.m.
It was not comfortable, one rider told CBS2s Janelle Burrell.
They were just like were going to stay here momentarily because theres a power outage, said commuter Max Civil.
That momentary wait tuned into about an hour and a half, according to rider Ray Bobcombe.

What?? How can this be?? De Blasio is supposed to be such an awesome mayor!?! These things shouldn’t be happening. Must be a right wing sabotage job....
I was stuck behind that train. Hour commute turned into 90 minutes with rerouting.
Oh and no. I didn’t vote for Hillary. 592,000 people in the 5 boroughs did vote Trump. I wish people wouldn’t lump everyone together like that. Its easy to do but its not right.
couldn’t they have walked the rest of the way in 10 minutes?
The Big Apple has worms and worm holes?
I assume you mean in the tunnels. Man you don’t want to try and usher 500-1000 people through those tunnels unless its life and death.
Just install more windmills...problem solved
As a former NYC resident, getting stuck on a non-moving train is not exactly a newsworthy or notable event. What really sucks is how hot it gets in those metal tubes with no A/C.
At some point is the infrastructure of old, large, high density cities no longer sustainable?

The taxes and fees are in place to replace the infrastructure as it ages, but due to corruption, incompetence and abuse, nothing gets fixed by the money already provided to fix it.
So, other taxes are levied and fees increased because “emergency” and most of that is also lost to corruption and/or incompetence.
When a city is falling apart, it is because the citizenry in that city can’t be bothered to take care of business when the usual suspects rip the citizens off.
Now there’s a massive power outage in San Francisco affecting their transportation:

Power out all over there.
must smell like second-hand shish kebab down there.
Power outages in L.A. and S.F. as well.
Coordinated or coincidence?
