FULL TITLE: BREAKING NEWS: Former Tennessee teacher is arrested and his 15-year-old student is found safe in northern California
Former Tennessee teacher Tad Cummins was arrested in northern California overnight and 15-year-old Elizabeth Thomas whom he was alleged to have kidnapped was found safe.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation broke the news in a tweet shortly before noon local time on Thursday and promised to release additional details during a press conference scheduled for 3pm.
Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kelly Giordano in California said Cummins' Nissan Rogue was found Wednesday night near the Oregon border.

Good news all around, though I’m astounded that of all the places they could have gone, he/they chose northern CA. But as long as he’s in custody and she’s safe, I am content.
This is amazing, I figured he had gone south of the border.
Maybe they circled the country and were headed for Canada.
Wow. I guess ‘Sanctuary State’ only applies to ILLEGAL Mexicans and other ILLEGAL brown people.

Yea it should have been! I posted it to front page, we’ve all been wondering if she’ll ever be found or end up like Elizabeth Smart.

Now we will wonder how many years he will get....
For a guy that was pretty stable prior to this, managing a life on the run had to be extremely difficult. Any time he tried to access his bank account or credit card, he would be tracked. He could only last as long as the cash held out. And as for getting a paying job, hard to do without ID, or skills that extend beyond teaching math.
Anyway, I always thought that the girl ran off with him, and who knows, she might have been an instigator for all we know. Legally, it's still kidnapping as she's underage. A school teacher should have known that nothing good would ever come of this, and it looks as though he will see many years of prison. By the time he gets out, his fifteen year old girlfriend will be in her forties or fifties. Can't imagine she'll be waiting for him.
