(Russ) Feingold starts group with aim of abolishing the Electoral College

MADISON (WKOW) -- Just months after losing his bid to return to the U.S. Senate, Middleton Democrat Russ Feingold is starting a new political organization with a stated goal of abolishing the U.S. Electoral College.

Feingold announced the creation of LegitAction Wednesday in a press release, calling it "an organization committed to restoring our country’s democratic legitimacy."

Under that premise, LegitAction will "focus on four central pillars of our democracy."

- Protecting the Right to Vote

- Reforming our campaign finance system

- Empowering the national popular vote by abolishing the Electoral College

- Protecting the independence and credibility of the Supreme Court

"LegitAction’s mission is to advocate for the restoration and protection of a legitimate U.S. government that is accountable to its citizens by promoting pro-democracy reforms and fighting back against the extreme forces and special interests undermining our country’s credibility and legitimacy," reads the release. "It will empower individual citizens and grassroots organizations by educating and galvanizing grassroots supporters, providing them tools to demand change by connecting members to their representatives and other influencers."

Many Democrats have decried the Electoral College since Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by nearly three million ballots, but still lost last November's presidential election after Donald Trump won the Electoral College 306-232.

Feingold served in the U.S. Senate from 1993 until 2011. He lost to Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) last November for the second straight time

I guess every other election in US history was also "not legit" because they all used the Electoral College. and I suppose the Senate itself is also not a legitimate institution since it isn't population based either?

And while we're on the subject of Russ Feingold, did the Russians make him lose the election too?

Every deep blue state that’s going to pass this end-run has already done so. They’re spinning their tires; no red state is going to have its legislature pass this, nor are big purple states like Florida just going to voluntarily cede their power so that California may have more sway.

This is like the owner of a football team with no passing game lobbying to have games decided by most yards rushing.

Should be: “Rusty Feingold Starts Group with Aim of Raising Lots of Money”... and paying himself a hefty salary.

Feingold has a history of this.

Feingold took an oath to “uphold, protect and defend the Constitution”.

He’s a prime example of what an oath really means to such a...creature.

“- Protecting the Right to Vote”

Stronger Voter ID laws?

“- Reforming our campaign finance system”

Unions get to plow as much money as they want into the election process. Corporations not a dime (how you gonna overturn Citizen’s United?)

“- Empowering the national popular vote by abolishing the Electoral College”

Mob rule, anybody?

“- Protecting the independence and credibility of the Supreme Court”

Other than make SCOTUS an elected position (which really doesn’t do this either) appointment is still the only option.

Well okie dokie Rusty...As soon as you can get 2/3rds of the states to go along with your hair brained idea, fine...but until then, shut your pie hole.

American’s, the one’s that would be subjected to the east coast and west coast group think would never be heard from ever again.

I’ll keep my Electoral College thank you very much — Now go be irrelevant somewhere else.

“Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by nearly three million ballots”.......

All of which were duplicate votes, dead persons voters and illegal, non-citizen votes, most coming for Kalifornica.

The voting system, such as it is, does NOT need to change SHOULD VOTERS vote legally. Screw the demodummies and Feingold, they want to change the rules since they both lost and can’t seem to get over it.

It is exactly the electorial college as to why we are NOT a democracy. Constitutional republic is our form of governance, or republican nation.

"It is exactly the electoral college as to why we are NOT a democracy."

You might think that a former US Senator would know this. But then, you would be wrong, wouldn't you?

Pretty sure we're called the United STATES of America and not the United PEOPLE of America. Pretty sure the Democrats have lost their minds.

"“Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by nearly three million ballots”......."

Geezus, Hillary. Why can't you be a good little liberal/progressive and be satisfied with your participation trophy? Look at all the useless, unearned awards you're being showered with these days! What more do ya want?

That would be a good way to put an end to what’s left of a constitutional republic. He should also add another item to his to-do list: change the name of the country to the People’s Republic of America.
