Am I mistaken or is it true that everything in Australia is trying to kill people?

To people living in Texas and other parts of the South: NEVER LEAVE YOUR CLOTHES OR TOWELS ON THE FLOOR. Brown recluse spiders might take up home there. Symptoms of their bite are similar to this. (Had a friend go through that. No amputation but several weeks in the hospital and they had to take a chunk out of his leg.)

Joke in Texas: even the butterflies are poisonous. Reality in Australia: just about everything is poisonous. Actually have friends who simply refuse to go there for that reason. IOW, you are correct.

The world’s 10 deadliest creatures in terms of bites or venom live in Australia— and more people are killed by cows each year than all of the others combined. :)

Nasty chemicals in those bites. Miniscule amount can destroy massive areas of tissue.
Terrible if they weaponized the stuff.

Even Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are deadly in Australia, imo.
