The population of Denver has been steadily growing over the past few years, but not enough of its new inhabitants want to work in the restaurant industry.
The reason? The higher-paying jobs are in weed, man.
New eateries are popping up all over Denver to meet the increased demand of residents and tourists, but restaurant owners claim they’re having a hard time filling their kitchens with able-bodied workers, Bloomberg reports.
“Our work force is being drained by the pot industry,” Denver restaurateur Bryan Dayton told the site.
“Enter the weed business, which pays $22 an hour with full benefits,” added Dayton. “You can come work in a kitchen for (me) for eight hours a day, in a hot kitchen. It’s a stressful life. Or you can go sort weed in a climate-controlled greenhouse. It’s a pretty obvious choice.”
So why don’t restaurant owners just pay a little more? Quite simply, the marijuana industry can generally afford to pay workers at various levels much higher wages, they argue.

Used irresponsibly there are a great many things in our lives that will harm us. I find it amusing when people who drink alcohol badmouth marijuana users as being worthless stoners. So by that logic if I come home at night and drink a couple beers before dinner, I'm a worthless drunk?
Some people are just useless, I don't think some of them would be any less useless with or without drugs and or alcohol.
The quality and convenience of buying it legally is worth the extra expense. I know countless people in Colorado buying weed; white, middle-class, professionals. Nobody goes through street dealers anymore. They all use legal dispensaries.
Professionals maybe but a talk radio guy had a piece on the tax revenue was half of what was expected and the high taxes gave street drugs in business. Professionals aren't the only ones that live in denver.
And so are the workers.
I live in another legal pot state (Washington). I also work in the restaurant industry. If someone is high at work, it's a danger not only to themselves, but to everyone around them. You're working with high temperatures, knives, and equipment that can be quite dangerous if used improperly.
The owner of where I work just sent an email last night that informed us that we have to sign a drug use and testing agreement before the end of the week. We would be subject to random drug testing, and required to take one if we get injured on the job and file an L&I claim.
I would rather not have to work with someone who is under the influence. No sane person would.

You’re statements are opinions not basis in fact.
The money to purchase cannabis comes from the same place as the $$$ to purchase anything else: our pockets. Everyone I know who uses cannabis works their 40+ hours a week just like food eaters, beer drinking & cigarette smokers do.

Actually not true, from my research about 10% of dopers and people who drink get addicted. In that they HAVE to have it. A large % of dopers use very regularly in addition.
MJ is addictive, it is now being realized, just more emotional/mental than emotional. But addivtive it is. I have known dopers in my life who HAVE to have it. Daily. Have to. That is addiction. To a substance that damages the ability to think rationally, take personal responsibilty, lowers the IQ, messes up sense perception, and so on.
No wonder Soros has poured $$$ into legalize pot organizations.
What a lot of dopers or drug users of any kind to do get money is sell it. That way they rope others into drug use, so they have enough for their own use without having to work a real job or run a real business, which often they have a hard time doing.

Addicts behave that way. People addicted to heroin, crack, meth, etc.
There is no physical addiction to cannabis. You need an example not born of the Reefer Madness era while have all been debunked endlessly.
