The population of Denver has been steadily growing over the past few years, but not enough of its new inhabitants want to work in the restaurant industry.
The reason? The higher-paying jobs are in weed, man.
New eateries are popping up all over Denver to meet the increased demand of residents and tourists, but restaurant owners claim theyre having a hard time filling their kitchens with able-bodied workers, Bloomberg reports.
Our work force is being drained by the pot industry, Denver restaurateur Bryan Dayton told the site.
Enter the weed business, which pays $22 an hour with full benefits, added Dayton. You can come work in a kitchen for (me) for eight hours a day, in a hot kitchen. Its a stressful life. Or you can go sort weed in a climate-controlled greenhouse. Its a pretty obvious choice.
So why dont restaurant owners just pay a little more? Quite simply, the marijuana industry can generally afford to pay workers at various levels much higher wages, they argue.

Absolutely they have taken over, we have always had illegal grows, but they were mostly locals. There are a few that are not with them but will not last long. this is big time Money
Do they expect to get licenses from the state? If not, then it would still be just as illegal as it was before.
What does any of that have to do with state-regulated grow operations?
...and working is a drag, dude...
They think the State is going to help them now. lol
They can trim. They’re like vermin.
Trump International is non smoking, non gaming.
Why should they get licenses? That costs money, and then they’d have to pay taxes. And maybe some kind of background check. No one in the county gov gives a s*** about anything except whatever $ someone sticks in their pockets.
It’s just as illegal and that’s the reality, not going to change until people get mad enough to burn their places down.
The solution in a Socialist utopia is simple:
1. Raise the minimum wage for kitchen workers a lot, and
2. Ban air conditioning in pot sorting greenhouses
I could say the same thing about the guys who work at breweries. and the whole Jack Daniels group is nothing but a bunch of useless eaters.
Oh my God. The serfs ran off and took 22 dollar an hour jobs with benefits rather than work in a kitchen for a bit over minimum?
Don’t they know they BELONG to the restauranteurs?
“The problem is these jobs produce nothing of real value to society.”
They don’t have to. An industry only need to produce something society wants.
Were the operations that were causing the problems licensed under CA law or not?
IOW, it’s got nothing to do with the law that CA just passed.
What is the point you’re trying to make?
I live in OR near the CA border and know about here and there.
Sure there was illegal mj growing before the laws passed. But it freaking exploded once it got legal. Just that most of the grows are not licensed. So the illegal mj growing exploded and is about 100 X worse.
You should be clear about the point you’re trying to make.
The fact and reality on the ground is that yes, there was illegal mj growing before, and now since it’s theoretically “legal”, the ILLEGAL growing is 100 times worse than before because they know they can get away with it since the county governments can’t/won’t do anything about it.
Is that clear enough for you?
Yeah, get a lot of people addicted/habituated to drugs - what a wonderful “industry”. No wonder Soros funded legalize mj organizations. It’s no secret.
A doped up population is a lot easier to control than a conscious aware population not stoned out of their minds.

Personally I don’t give a damn about whether lazy millenials work or not in Denver, or Portland, or Seattle. If they want to live a life of drugs, then they get the life that comes with it, crime, illness and death, as well as wealth.
Sometimes you just cannot help the STUPID even if you are concerned and care. I want to help those who want to be helped as I have very limited resources to share with them, but my religious tradition says that you should do a “mitzvah” (or good deed) whenever possible for your fellow human beings.
I’m tired of those who have chosen to waste their lives with drugs becoming a “cause celebre”.
We lost a family member to drugs but it was far more complicated and not a voluntary condition. many decades ago, a neighbor’s grandson took heroin and died at age 13 or so. He would have become a millionaire when his grandfather passed away. He never made it. His choice, his death, and a good man, the grandfather, his wife and the parents suffered for one stupid mistake.
Those who use drugs are just plain stupid and sometimes you can’t fix stupid no matter how hard you try.
