Seems like a boring news day,What's Your Favorite One-hit Wonder Song?
Wicked Ruby--Danny Zanella (1959)
“To all you Southern ladies and gents who are shaggin on the boulevard who could forget Stay by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs.”
Here you go, straight from the Myrtle Beach Pavillion:
In my dormitory room at Saarland University in Saarbrücken, Germany, that song, broadcast over the US Armed Forces Network 's AM station in Kaiserslautern, brought me some joy.
The '79 Sportsters were unique, that's for sure. Almost everything on them was specific to that year of production only.
Chantilly Lace-The Big Bopper
I’m an idiot. You’re right.
Not sure why he's listed as a one-hit wonder here; Brubeck was fantastic and had a huge following. Maybe because it was his only crossover hit?
You got that right!
Dave Brubeck was a giant in instrumental jazz, along with saxophonist Paul Desmond (who actually wrote Take Five). One can only name a handful of jazz artists that were bigger. The Dave Brubeck Quartet certainly couldn't be classified as a "one hit wonder" in any way, shape, or form.
Blue Rondo a la Turk was another DBQ hit, not to mention The Duke, and several others.
Let's not forget we're talking about jazz here. I'd have to say that, for his era, there weren't many jazz artists who were more popular than Dave Brubeck. He's one of my absolute favorites, with his ethereal piano solos.
I mean, Take Five—in 5/4, no less—is one of the most iconic jazz hits of all time, and Blue Rondo a la Turk—in 9/8—isn't far behind...
That’s pretty remarkable since she wasn’t born until 1977.
Sinatra had 22 top 100 songs (including another #1) and Debby Boone had 7. Are you unsure of the concept of one-hit wonders?
Just for the record a one-hit wonder is an artist who achieves success and then drops out of sight. It does not mean someone who had a #1 hit. Anyone cracking the Billboard Hot 100 would be considered a success. Most of the artists nominated in this thread so far do not qualify as one-hit wonders.
“Timothy. By The Buoy.”
I remember this song from when I was in the first grade. I looked it up a year or so ago, and it is now on my playlist.
Cannibalism seemed to have a memorable affect on me as a child. I don’t think it traumatized me, but even after all of these years I still remembered it.
Great song!
Byrds had way more hits than that one
Sausalito Summernight by Diesel
Beach Baby by First Class
City of New Orleans by Arlo Guthrie
Some artists only had 1 hit in US but many more overseas
Pictures of matchstick Men—Status Quo
Running Up That Hill—Kate Bush
Some had many more hits by the band they used to be in
Welcome Back by John Sebastian (Lovin Spoonful)
One hit conserative category
Cat Scratch Fever by Ted Nugent
Natural High by Avant Garde featuring Chuck Woolery
Ballad of Green Berets by S/Sgt Barry Sadler
Elvis later did a cover of this. Then there was a completely different one by the Shirelles. This one is the real stuff.

What is a one hit wonder?
An artist with exactly one top 20 hit, strictly speaking. Also, an artist with no top 20 songs but with one song far more famous than any other. Click years for one hit wonder lists, click pictures for more on artists.

Bob Lind - Elusive Butterfly (Original Complete Version)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbuC9hX2XAk
Bob Lind’s Rarely heard Original Complete Version of “Elusive
Butterfly of Love”. It had been greatly edited for the Single release.
(Always associated it with so many infatuations , but never caught the bright elusive butterfly of love .. the extra lyrics ... sigh..)
