I cannot find reference of an old movie, maybe from 60's or 70's, about a guy driving around with something alien or radioactive in the car's trunk. Think he was thin with sunglasses and smoked. Anyone recall it?

How about ‘INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS” Kevin McCarthy in the 1950s and
Donald Southerland in the 1970s
This movie had both options, trucks and trunks. The alien life form was pods grown by local farmers in California. ie- okra.

Was there a night scene, with a house at a beach maybe, where a man (the bad guy?) opened the box...the good guy was a ways off down the beach, and there was a bright light that emanated from the house...killed the guy that opened it...or maybe killed a woman?
I seem to remember an old movie with that in it.

Starman?
Jeff Bridges plays the alien who cloned himself into human form with a lock of hair into a dead guy. He gets picked up by an older fella in pickup truck to help him get to New Mexico.

Could you be referring to 1955’s Kiss Me Deadly?

I think the X-Files based an epi on the alien-in-the-back [of a truck], too.

Kind of late in the thread, but here are some other bizarre movies that are of similar weirdness.

The Apple (1980)
The Return of the Living Dead (1985)
The American Astronaut (2001)
Arizona Dream (1993)
The Bed Sitting Room (1969)

A Boy and His Dog (1975)
Cemetery Man [Dellamorte Dellamore] (1994)
Django Kill
If You Live, Shoot! (1967) (An ambiguously dead antihero who shoots golden bullets fights Mr. Sorrow and his gang of gay fascist cowboys) Oh-kay.
Enter the Void (2009)
Eraserhead (1977)
Forbidden Zone (1982) (The ‘Oingo Boingo’ movie)
