Hehehehe
Listening to a fine set of Chuck right now 1988 New Years eve. You can find it here along with other Chuck Berry shows:

Download and enjoy. Kick back with a fine beverage and whatever and turn the speakers on loud. BTW all these shows are downloadable. Sugarmegs has all their stuff hosted with archive.org somehow.
Here’s my Post #80... “Love BTTF, but one of my big complaints is that by the time Marvin called his cousin Chuck and held the phone out for Chuck to hear Marty play, Marty had already begun playing the pseudo Eddie Van Halen riffs (not the great Chuck Berry riffs he opened with).
That horrible mid-80s guitar playing would never have inspired Chuck to play his style of rock n roll in the future. I think Zemekis really blew that part!
I need to get out more...”

I suspect that going on a cash-pay basis helped to create his tax problems. It probably became obvious to the IRS that he was greatly under-reporting income....??
IIRC I saw Chuck Berry New Years eve 1988. I was in NYC, might have been the limelight or some other big club. Couldn’t find that particular gig on that immense list.
The Beatles secret was that they lived in Liverpool. Liverpool is a big port city, with a lot of merchant sailors being based there. Well, a lot of these sailors took shipping runs to America and were exposed to American music. A lot of times they brought back records from America, records that couldn’t be found for love nor money in the UK. Because of that the Beatles exposure to American music styles was much more diverse than the Stones.

Don’t forget Robert Johnson, the original member of the “27” club.

Many thanks!
You are welcome and either six months from now you will either seek me out to shake my hand or punch me in the nose because you haven’t slept in weeks...always another show to sample... :)
this is the description: ChuckBerry1988-12-31PalladiumNYC.asx
the site for all the shows is tela.sugarmegs.org very simple. No graphics to speak of easy to use. I download via wma and put it in my fission program to convert to 256mp4.
If there there is one problem, all these shows are not tracked. You will have to cut them up yourself if that is your inclination. Many times there are set lists, but sometimes they are lacking.
For a repository of great listening music (no kiddy stuff) then sugarmegs is the place. I have been enjoying it for some ten years now. Always something new popping up. Because of Sugarmegs I have some 2TB of music. Its great.
Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Fats Domino, Elvis & Jerry Lee Lewis... Those are the ones I think of when I think rock. There are otters though.
Very good, extended article here:
